Manage Backup Exclusion Rules in Backup & Recover for Salesforce

Create and verify rules to control your Salesforce backup content with backup exclusions. Select items that you don't want backed up and easily view them in one place with a clear audit trail.

Create a Backup Exclusion Rule

  1. Go to the service you want to manage exclusion rules for.
  2. Select Backup Exclusions.
  3. Click New Rule. Select from:
    • Group of Tables
    • Table
      Note
Note The name entered must match the Salesforce API naming convention. If the name entered isn't an exact match, the relevant table or field won't be excluded from future backups. Errors may also result.
    • Field

You can filter by entering the Excluded name in the search box.

  4. Enter an Exclusion Reason. If you select Other, add a comment.
  5. Click Save.

If you try to create a rule for a table that can't be backed up, an error message appears.

If a rule for the same type and name already exists, the new rule isn't added.

Verify a Backup Exclusion Rule

After a new exclusion rule is added, it affects your next running backup.

  1. Go to the Backup History tab.
  2. Select the backup you want to check.
  3. Check the Show empty sObjects checkbox.
  4. Enter the sObject name in the search box to show the backup exclusions.
  5. To check that the rule was correctly applied to a field, click the number of records to download a CSV file of the records. In the CSV file, verify that the removed table no longer appears.

  1. Go to the service you want to modify.
  2. Select the Backup Exclusions tab.
  3. Select the rule you want to delete, and click the X icon at the end of the row.
