Set Up Metrics for Marketing Goals in Marketing Planning and Operations

Tip Marketing Intelligence is the recommended source for goal metrics. A metric can come from any semantic model, as long as its data resolves to a campaign.

Add a metric to the semantic model for each result that a goal tracks. Base each metric on data that resolves to a campaign. When a goal owner links a metric, the goal filters that metric's data to its own campaign and date range, then calculates the actual from only the matching records. If the metric's data can't resolve to a campaign, the goal's actual returns 0. After this setup, the metrics are ready to select for a marketing goal.

  1. Create a metric for each result that a goal tracks.
  2. Include a time dimension on the metric so that each linked goal pulls its actual within the goal's start and end dates.
For example, base a pipeline metric on the opportunity created date. A campaign goal running from January 1 to March 31 then counts only that quarter's pipeline.
