Example: Track Click-Through Rate for a Campaign Goal in Marketing Planning and Operations

The marketing team at Northern Trail Outfitters (NTO) sets a goal on an email nurture campaign to reach a 5% click-through rate. They want the goal to track click-through rate automatically, without manual updates. The engagement data connects to the campaign only through the email message. So, the admin uses that relationship to create a click-through-rate metric. Use this example when your metric's data doesn't store the campaign but connects to it through a related object that stores the campaign.

User Permissions Needed
To model data and create metrics:

Data Cloud Architect permission set

OR

  1. Identify the related object that stores the campaign.
For example, the Email Engagement data object reaches the campaign through Bulk Email Message, which stores the campaign. Both are available in Marketing Intelligence. To see which data objects connect to a campaign, see Unified Marketing Intelligence Semantic Data Model.
  2. Confirm that a relationship ties your data object to the campaign through that related object.
For Marketing Intelligence objects, this relationship exists. If your data doesn't have it yet, create a relationship. See Create a Relationship Between Data 360 Objects.
  3. Create a metric on your data object for the result your goal tracks.
For this goal, create a metric on Email Engagement that calculates the click-through rate. See Create a Metric for a Semantic Model in Data 360.
  4. Include a time dimension on the metric so that each linked goal pulls its actual within the goal's start and end dates.
For example, base the metric on the engagement date so that a campaign goal running from January 1 to March 31 counts the clicks in that quarter.
