Add Topics to Files

Topics make it possible to search for all the items that touch on a given topic. Topics added to Chatter posts are also added to any files in the post or its comments. When you search for those topics, the files are included in the results.

Required Editions

User Permissions Needed
To add topics to files	Viewer access to the file AND Assign Topics (to add existing topics) OR Create Topics (to add new topics)

To add topics to files posted in Chatter feeds, add topics to the post where the file is attached. You can add regular topics or hashtag topics. The topics are automatically added to any files that are attached to the post or its comments.

Example

Post with file and Topics (Salesforce Classic)

Since Kimmy added the topics Sales Training, Western Region, and Feedback Request to a post, these topics are also added to the attached file. Now, coworkers can click on a topic to find other posts, files, and records associated with that topic.

In Lightning Experience, go to the Related tab to see all records with a topic. Click View All for the entire list, and sort by Object Type to see all the files with the topic.

In Salesforce Classic, go to the Records tab and choose Files. Otherwise, use the Feed tab to see all posts and files for the topic.
