Considerations for the Swarm Conversations Component

Before you use the Swarm Conversations component, make sure you understand its limitations.

Component Compatibility

  • You can add the Swarm Conversations component to page layouts for only the objects that support Swarming.
  • You can see and interact with only the Slack channels that are linked to the record’s swarm. For example, if a swarm was started for a case, you can see the related Slack swarm channel conversation from the case’s Swarm Conversations component.
  • Only public and private channels are supported in the Swarm Conversations component. You can’t see direct messages or group messages from the component.
  • Users can see only the Slack channels that they have access to in Slack.
  • You can receive real-time messages from only the Slack channels that have the Service Cloud for Slack app installed.
  • The Swarm Conversations component automatically resizes based on the page’s available space, but doesn’t account for Comfy or Compact display density changes by the user.
  • The Enter or Return key doesn’t send a Slack message from the Swarm Conversations component. Use the Send button instead.
  • The Swarm Conversations component doesn’t automatically redirect to the newest message for Firefox users.
  • You can’t send a thread reply to the rest of the Slack channel from the Swarm Conversations component.
  • For optimal performance, don’t add more than two Swarm Conversations components to your page layout.

Slack Actions

  • Using and creating Slack slash commands aren’t supported from the Swarm Conversations component.
  • Using and creating Slack workflows aren’t supported from the Swarm Conversations component.
  • Some Slack blocks, like actions, aren’t supported from the Swarm Conversations component. To view a message’s unsupported block element, open the message in Slack.

Message Formatting

  • You can send, receive, and view Slack messages from the Swarm Conversations component in Lightning Experience.
  • You can @mention Slack users from the Swarm Conversations component. When @mentioning the user, you see their availability status as set in Slack.
  • @here and @Everyone aren’t supported from the Swarm Conversations component.
  • To @mention a Slack channel from the Swarm Conversations component, enter # followed by the channel name. You can mention only the Slack channels that you have access to.
  • To send an emoji from the Swarm Conversations component, enter : followed by the emoji’s short name.
  • The Swarm Conversations component doesn’t support partial formatting. For example, if part of a message is bolded but the rest isn’t, the message appears as unbolded.
  • Nested lists, inline code, code blocks, block quotes, and date formatting aren’t supported for outbound messages from the Swarm Conversations component.

Attachments

  • You can upload, send, preview, and download attachments from the Swarm Conversations component.
  • You can upload an attachment of up to 3 MB from the Swarm Conversations component.
  • To preview an attachment sent from Slack, from the Swarm Conversations component, find, and download the file.
  • Deleting an attachment from Slack also deletes it from the Swarm Conversations component. You can’t delete an attachment from the Swarm Conversations component.
