Best Practices for Creating Sales Channels

To avoid introducing duplicate channels and ensure that the channels you create are easy to find, follow these best practices before you start creating channels.

Spend a few minutes reviewing our advice for planning a sales channel strategy. See Plan Your Sales Channel Strategy section in Preparing for Sales Cloud for Slack. Or ask a sales leader if your company has established your own strategy.

Plan which opportunities or accounts can benefit from a sales channel.

Note any Slack channels where your sales teams are already working on any of those accounts or opportunities, and retain a list of those channels. Rather than uprooting conversations that are in progress, convert those existing Slack channels to sales channels. Only spin up new channels for records that don’t have an established presence in Slack.

Decide whether any new channels are private or public.

Determine the list of team members to invite to each channel.

Ask your sales leader or manager if your company uses a naming convention for sales channels, and follow that convention. Use a common naming convention to make finding channels set up for sales channels as easy as possible. If not, we recommend using a name such as #oppty-opportunity-name, #acct-account-name, or #sales-acct-name-oppty-name, depending on which records are in the channel.

Create your sales channels, connecting each channel to the appropriate opportunities and accounts.

Create a post to welcome people to the channel and start selling as a team.
