Activate a Feed Channel

Set up Slack feed channels so that users can see notifications about deals that your team is watching or have closed. Two predefined feed channels are available: Deals to Watch and Deals Won. You can also create feed channels and broadcast topics for other announcements.

User Permissions Needed
To set up Slack apps and features: Customize Application

Ideally, set up feed channels and broadcast topics before you have users connect to Sales Cloud for Slack for the first time. That way, users see their available channels in their Slack welcome message when they first log in.

  1. From Setup, in the Quick Find box, enter Slack, and select Sales Cloud for Slack.
  2. Select a channel and click Activate Channel.
  3. Add the users who can access the channel. If you don’t want to add everyone, edit the user roles.
  4. Select the workspace that you want to add the feed channel to.
  5. Choose whether the channel is public or private.
Users can view or join a private channel only by invitation. Anyone in the team’s Slack workspace can view or join a public channel.
    Note
Note After a channel is set to private, you can’t change it to public.
  6. Select whether to automatically add users in the selected roles to the channel now or to have users join the feed channel manually. If you opted to include the channels in users’ welcome message, they can find the channel easily.
If you’re adding Salesforce users to feed channels using roles, user roles from your role hierarchy that are above the role that you select don’t inherit access to the channel.
  7. Click Next.
  8. To create the feed channel and invite users, click Activate Channel.
  • Create a Broadcast Topic Type for a Feed Channel
A broadcast topic type directs the kind of announcements that are sent to your feed channels. In addition to the predefined Deals Won and Deals to Watch topic types, you can create other topics, each with its own feed channel. Assign a broadcast topic type for each feed channel that you create.
  • Create a Feed Channel
Keep users up to date on announcements using your own feed channel. A channel must be connected to a broadcast topic.
  • Deactivate a Feed Channel
Sales Cloud for Slack comes with two preconfigured feed channels, Deals-to-Watch and Deals-Won, which you can activate to keep you up to date on important progress and deal closings. To deactivate these channels, you have two options: deactivate the flow sending notifications to these channels or archive the channel completely.
