Visualize how network devices connect across Layer 2 and Layer 3 topology. The Network Connections process job links VLANs, switches, routers, end devices, and chassis clusters from discovered neighbor data.

How Network Connections Are Mapped
The Network Connections process job maps adjacency among switches, routers, VLANs, and end devices by using discovered Layer 2 port data and Layer 3 neighbor data. When VLAN data is available, the job creates relationships between the VLANs. Otherwise, it creates a direct relationship between the devices. The job also associates servers with chassis clusters by matching chassis IDs.
When to Run the Job
Run the job after network device discovery. Rerun it as your network changes to reflect new devices and adjacency relationships. To start the job, see Run a Process Job.
Relationships Created
| Source and Target | Relationship | What It Means | How It’s Matched |
|---|---|---|---|
| VLAN to VLAN | Connected To | VLANs on two switches or routers are adjacent. | The job matches VLAN ports from Layer 2 and Layer 3 neighbor data. |
| VLAN to Switch, Router, or End Device | Connected To | A VLAN is adjacent to a device that doesn't have VLAN data. | The job uses neighbor data when VLAN information is available on only one side of the connection. |
| Switch or Router to Switch, Router, or End Device | Connected To | Two devices are adjacent when neither side has VLAN data. | The job uses neighbor data and identifies the end device by IP address. |
| Server to Chassis Cluster | Contains | A server belongs to a chassis cluster. | The job matches the server chassis ID to the chassis cluster. |
