After you install Salesforce Maps and give users access, prepare your data: select the objects to visualize on the map, geocode their records so they plot in the right locations, validate the results, and optimize search performance.
- Select Which Objects Plot in Salesforce Maps
Salesforce Maps uses objects such as Account, Case, or Lead to plot records. Add each object that you want to visualize, and map its address and coordinate fields. - Geocode Records to Plot Them in Salesforce Maps
Records plot on the map after they have a verified latitude and longitude. Salesforce Maps geocodes records by matching their address fields against a geocoding provider and writing the resulting coordinates back to the record. - Validate That Records Plot Correctly in Salesforce Maps
After geocoding data, verify that records appear in the correct geographic locations on the map. To validate settings, plot a temporary marker layer and confirm that records appear in the expected geographic locations. - Optimize Salesforce Maps Search Performance
Improve search performance for large data volumes by excluding rarely searched objects and choosing the appropriate search method (SOQL or SOSL).
