Add a Map Layer in Salesforce Maps

Add a layer to display records or geographic information on the map. Create marker, shape, and data layers to visualize your Salesforce data, define territories, and add third-party context for your field users. Save a layer in a private folder, or share it by saving it in the Corporate folder.

Required Editions

Available in: Lightning Experience and Salesforce Classic
Available in: Professional, Enterprise, Performance, Unlimited, and Developer Editions
User Permissions Needed
To configure Maps features: Customize Application
To use the Corporate folder: Folder Permissions
  1. Click Layers in Salesforce Maps.
  2. Select which folder to save the layer in. To keep the layer private, select Saved | Personal. To share it with other users based on folder permissions, select Saved | Corporate.
  3. Enter a name and description.
  4. Configure the layer for the type that you want to create.
    • Marker layer (display object records on the map)—select the object whose records you want to show, plus the filter and style options.
    • Shape layer (draw geographic boundaries to define territories)—define the shape, and click Display to configure the appearance. Boundary data comes from an external provider, such as the US government. If the provider updates their data, your shape layer reflects the changes.
    • Data layer (show proprietary or third-party data)—select the data source, filters, and style. Before you can use an ArcGIS layer, enable Cross-Origin Resource Sharing (CORS) on the Esri Portal. See Configure the ArcGIS Connector for Salesforce Maps.
  5. Save.

To change a layer after you create it, see Edit a Salesforce Maps Layer.
