Pipeline Management and Account Management can keep opportunity or account text fields updated based on data sources, such as notes, voice and video call transcripts, and emails. You can choose to apply the updates autonomously or require a sales rep to approve the suggestions. You control what each update includes, along with its tone and length, by writing output instructions. These suggestions help you write more precise instructions.
Required Editions
| Available in: Lightning Experience |
| Available in: Enterprise, Performance, Unlimited, and Developer Editions with the Agentforce for Sales or Agentforce for an Industry add-on, or included in Agentforce 1 Sales or an Industry Edition. Requires each user to have the Agentforce for Sales or Agentforce for an Industry add-on to access the actions. |
- Define what the field means and give an example of the content that you expect. Output instructions are the only frame of reference for the field's purpose.
- Specify the number of sentences (for example, "2-4 sentences" or "one sentence") and the tone, such as neutral and factual.
- State what to exclude. For example, "Don’t list next steps." Exclusions keep a field's content from overlapping another field.
- Don't restate the field type or character limit.
- Set a minimum length. For example, to make sure that updates aren’t too short, state "Don’t suggest a single word. Include a minimum of 30 characters when suggesting a value."
- Skip instructions that ask for evidence. By default, every snippet includes quotes or phrases from the data source as supporting evidence. Instead, focus on field meaning, examples, length, tone, and exclusions.
- Truncation happens automatically. When a quote is too long, it's truncated with ellipses at the end of a word and only to the shortest length that preserves its meaning.
Example
Here's how these practices look when applied to opportunity and account fields.
| field | example instructions |
|---|---|
| Opportunity Description (or Summary) | "Maintain a concise summary of the deal: what the customer is trying to solve, their evaluation status, and known obstacles. Neutral, factual tone. Don’t include next steps." |
| Deal Risks | "List the active risks or blockers on this opportunity that the team should be aware of. Bullet-style, most severe first." |
| Account Summary | "Summarize the current state of this relationship so an account manager can get caught up fast: recent activity, customer sentiment, and anything notable. Neutral, factual tone. 2–4 sentences. Don’t list next steps or recommended actions." |
| Account Sentiment | "State the customer's current sentiment toward us, our product offerings, and the relationship and the main reason for it based on the most recent interactions. Neutral, factual tone. 2–4 sentences. Don’t list next steps." |
| Next Steps | "Provide the next 1–3 most important actions for the account team to take that are ordered by impact and support the goals of the customer and overall account. Action-oriented tone. One sentence per action." |
| Competitors | "List competitors the customer has explicitly mentioned. For each competitor, state the customer sentiment toward them and any strengths or weaknesses the customer named. Only include competitors actually referenced. Don’t infer. One bullet per competitor, 1–2 lines each." |
| Growth Opportunity | "Capture expansion or upsell signals for this account: what the customer is asking about, unmet needs, and adoption signals that suggest room to grow. Factual. Don’t include renewal risks or current-scope activity. 2–4 sentences." |
