Prompt Builder templates are now fully supported in the Salesforce Metadata API (MDAPI), enabling deployment automation, version control, and CI/CD integration. Use Salesforce CLI, SFDX, or third-party deployment tools to retrieve, deploy, and track changes to prompt templates alongside your other metadata.
Where: This change applies to Lightning Experience in Enterprise, Performance, and Unlimited editions with the Foundations and the Agentforce for Sales or Service add-on, or included in Agentforce 1 Editions. Generative AI is available in Lightning Experience.
When: This feature is available starting the week of June 8, 2026.
Why: Treating prompt templates as metadata enables version control, automated deployment, environment promotion, and rollback capabilities. Teams can now manage prompts through the same CI/CD pipelines used for other Salesforce metadata.
How: To retrieve or deploy prompt templates, use the Salesforce CLI project retrieve start and project deploy start commands with the genAiPromptTemplate metadata type. You can also deploy specific templates by including the genAiPromptTemplate type and template names in your package.xml manifest file.
