Seeding Recurring Activities

When you seed recurring activities in Salesforce, you can automatically schedule and manage activities that occur repeatedly. By automating the creation of events or tasks that occur at specific times, you can make your work processes more efficient, cut down on manual work, and keep your activity management consistent.

Overview

A recurring activity is an activity that is scheduled to repeatedly occur. In Salesforce, a recurring activity is comprised of a series of recurring records. The specific recurring Salesforce activities of interest are the Event object and the Task object. See Event and Task in the Salesforce Object Reference Guide.

  • An Event object represents an event in the calendar.
  • A Task object represents a business activity, such as making a phone call or other to-do items.

Salesforce Classic

With Salesforce Classic, the following issues impact the seeding of recurring activities:

  • A recurring activity is comprised of a parent record and a series of recurring child records.
  • When adding recurring activities to a seeding template, you do not need to explicitly filter the series of recurring child records, as the Seeding application automatically ignores these records.
    • Salesforce automatically creates in the destination the relevant series of recurring child records that reference the parent record.
    • The Seeding application does not support the seeding of only the series of recurring child records without the parent record.
  • A series of recurring child records that Salesforce automatically creates/updates/deletes in the destination are not counted in the Seeding application’s Seeding Report.
  • API Use
    • The Seeding application uses Rest API to update parent records.
    • When the Seeding application deletes parent records, it uses a single Bulk API call per parent record. This may consume your Salesforce Bulk jobs quota.

Lightning Experience

With Lightning Experience, the following issues impact the seeding of recurring activities:

  • A recurring activity is comprised of a series of recurring records. There is no parent record for a recurring activity (as there is in Classic Salesforce).
  • Series of recurring records are seeded in the destination. However, these records are no longer related, and each record becomes a standalone activity.
  • API Use
    • The Seeding application uses Rest API to update recurring records.
    • When the Seeding application deletes recurring records, it uses a single Bulk API call per record. This may consume your Salesforce Bulk jobs quota.
