A Levels template provides options for calculation of the number of records per root object node.
Root Object Record Count
Always enabled. Default option for Levels templates. Calculates the exact number of records that can be retrieved for a potential seeding job, for each root object node listed in the Roots panel of the Template Builder tab. The UI displays the count in each root object node's tile in the Roots panel.
Root object record counts:
- Are calculated using the live source of the service that is defined in the Template Source field.
- Take into consideration any root object filtering that is in effect, at the time of calculation, for each root object node.
Accurate Record Counts Using Backup
For each root object node listed in the Roots panel of the Template Builder tab, calculates the exact number of records that can be retrieved for a potential seeding job, for each object node, including for all of its child objects, if any.
Child objects are a function of each root object's Object level depth setting.
Use Case: A user can know, in advance of performing a seeding job using their Levels template, the following key, seeding information:
- The exact number of records that would be seeded by the seeding job.
- An estimated, total size of the seeding job.
This option is in addition to the always enabled, default option Root object record count. Selecting this option automatically initiates an accurate record count calculation. You can also manually initiate a refresh of the accurate record count calculation.
Accurate record counts using backup:
- Are calculated using a backup of the service that is defined in the Template Source field. You select the backup version to be used.
- Take into consideration any root object filtering that is in effect, at the time of calculation, for each root object node.
- Changing the current backup selection automatically initiates a refresh of the accurate record count calculation.
Working with Object Record Counts in the Levels Template Builder Tab
In the Template Builder tab toolbar, click the three dots to open the Template Builder tab's context menu. From the displayed menu, select Record Counts. The Record Counts dialog opens.
When the dialog's only option, Accurate record counts using backup, is not selected, it means that the default option, Root object record count, is enabled for the Levels template.
When choosing the Accurate record counts using backup option, you must also select a backup version from the drop-down menu. The available backup version options from which to choose are:
- The Latest Backup (default selection): Retrieve the most recent (error-free) data backup of the service that is defined in the Template Source field.
- A Recent Backup: The Recent Backups section lists by <date> <time> all (error-free) data backups from the past 6 months that exist for the service that is defined in the Template Source field. You can select any one of these backups.
When the Accurate record counts using backup option is enabled, the Template Builder tab toolbar provides relevant information and UI modals:
- That Accurate counts is currently in effect for the Levels template.
- The Accurate counts drop-down arrow.
- The Recalculate button. Clicking this button initiates a refresh of the accurate record count calculation.
- Date of the most recent, accurate record count calculation.
- An estimated, seeding job size, Size:~ <size>, when using the Levels template, based on the most recent, accurate record count calculation.
Click the Accurate counts drop-down arrow to display a window that provides you with information about template objects that were found in or missing from the backup that you selected for calculating accurate counts:
- The Calculated (<n>) tab lists each template object found in the backup, which
includes root objects and child objects, that contains at least one record. Per listed
object, a count of the exact number of records, which would be seeded, is provided.Important When there are multiple instances of an object in a template and there are overlapping records among these instances, the overlapping records are counted only once when tallying the total number of records for that object.
- The Missing Objects (<n>) tab lists any template objects that were missing from
the backup.Tip When there are missing objects that you want to include in a backup of the service, navigate to Backup > Backup Exclusions > Backup Exclusion Rules and remove any relevant, excluded objects. Then, perform a manual backup of that service. The resulting, latest (error-free) backup now includes those objects that were previously being excluded from the service's backup.
When a root object node's existing record count changes, due to a recent application of filtering (as defined in the root object node's Filters dialog), the icon is displayed in the node, as a reminder that the root object node's existing record count is no longer accurate. Hovering over the icon displays a tooltip advising you to initiate a refresh of the accurate count calculation (in the Template Builder tab toolbar, click Recalculate).
Whenever your action triggers the calculation/recalculation of accurate counts, for example, by selecting Accurate record counts using backup in the Record Counts dialog or by clicking Recalculate in the Template Builder tab toolbar, the UI temporarily overlays the Template Builder tab with the Calculation in Progress message. In the message, click X to stop the calculation/recalculation currently underway.
