If a Salesforce automatic backup fails or you don't want to wait for the next scheduled backup, you can start a backup at any time. Back up the entire service or only specific objects.
Back Up Services Manually
- Go to the Backup tab.
- Select the backup service for the org you want to back up. The Dashboard page for the selected service appears.
-
Click Back Up Now to back up the entire service. Optionally, you
can:
- Back Up Now with Label: Manually back up the entire service, and add a specific label to this specific backup (for example "Test").
- Back Up Now Specific Objects: Manually back up only specific objects.
- Wait for the backup to complete.
Back Up Objects Manually
When you back up specific objects manually, rather than the entire org, you can back up faster and restore faster in some cases of corruption. You can back up objects from a data service or a metadata service.
When to Use
- Identifying corruption in specific objects: When there's corruption in a specific object, you can back up only that object or a small subset of objects. This approach minimizes the amount of data to repair and significantly reduces backup time. It also accelerates the restoration process.
- Large objects: Backing up large objects can improve recovery time for metadata incidents.
Benefits
- Faster backups: Focusing on specific objects reduces backup time.
- Quicker restoration: The restoration process is accelerated, because only the necessary data is restored.
- Improved recovery time: Focusing on specific objects reduces the overall recovery time for metadata incidents.
Notes
- Backing up specific objects doesn't use Bulk API.
- Although you can't directly compare specific objects, you can compare the specific object backup with the last relevant backup. The job report shows the data changes for the objects included in the specific object backup. You can identify and address changes more efficiently, even without direct comparison capabilities.
- Go to the Backup tab.
- Select the backup service in which the data or metadata loss or corruption occurred.
- Under Backup Now, select Backup now specific objects.
- The Backup Specific Objects dialog window appears. Select the objects that you want to back up, and click Back Up Now.
- The backup of selected objects begins, and you see a confirmation message.
