When to Use Each Document Agent
Use the Document Reader Agent to extract fields or tables from unstructured documents, such as PDFs or images, or when you want to extract fields from documents where the format changes with each workflow run.
Use the Document Agent to generate or summarize a document, compare documents, or extract tables from a CSV or Excel file where the format of the table is identical every time the workflow runs. To use the Document Agent to extract tables, the file can't have any special formatting and the first row of the file has to be the column labels.
Choosing and Configuring a Document Agent
Learn more about what each document agent does, its capabilities, and how to configure tasks that use it.
The Document Agent extracts data from structured documents, generates summaries, fills Word templates, and compares .docx files. Use it when the document format is consistent across workflow runs. To learn more, see Document Agent in Agentforce Operations.
The Document Reader Agent (Beta) extracts fields and tables from unstructured or variable-format documents like scanned PDFs and images. Configure keyword aliases and per-field instructions to guide extraction. To learn more, see Document Reader Agent (Beta) in Agentforce Operations.
