You can track email engagement based on several different metrics, including email opens and link clicks. If you choose to track all email opens, Account Engagement inserts an invisible, single-pixel image into each HTML email. When a recipient opens the email, the image loads, and it’s counted as an HTML open.
Open rates are difficult to measure accurately because some email clients turn off image loading, and some regulations limit the use of pixel tracking. Differences between email settings and email client features can also impact open tracking.
Here are a few examples.
- If an email client downloads images, and the recipient uses a preview pane, an email viewed in the preview is counted as opened.
- Some spam checkers and virus scanners trigger multiple email opens when they scan an inbox.
- Account Engagement can’t insert the tracking pixel into text emails.
- If open tracking is disabled, it turns off pixel tracking as well as implied open tracking based on link clicks.
- Define Email Tracking Settings
You can control whether Account Engagement tracks email opens, which are based on a tracking pixel in your HTML email sends. Email opens are tracked in all business units by default, but an admin can change the setting in each business unit as needed. Other settings are provided for click tracking and Advanced Email Analytics data tracking. - Email Link Tracking
Account Engagement uses your tracker subdomains to rewrite and uniquely track link clicks in emails. Some links aren't rewritten, based on where they come from or how they're formatted, and can’t be tracked.
