How Metrics Guard Works
Metrics Guard relies on thresholds to identify bursts of open and click activity that can be caused by email scanners and bots. Thresholds for opens and clicks are based on conservative averages of peak email activity within a certain time frame across the Account Engagement ecosystem. When there’s a burst of activity from an IP address, activity tracking on that location is paused until the activity level falls back below the threshold.
Considerations for Metrics Guard
Metrics Guard is built into our email tools, so there’s no setup required. However, keep these considerations in mind about Metrics Guard and your email activity data.
- Metrics Guard is designed to block most bot activity, but it can’t catch every illegitimate click or open.
- Email security scanners are constantly evolving. If activity falls below the thresholds Metrics Guard looks for, it’s possible bot clicks and opens could be recorded.
- Thresholds for opens and clicks are evaluated separately. Metrics Guard doesn’t consider combined open and clicks to identify bot activity.
- If you notice persistent bot-like activity from specific IP address, you can create a visitor filter. A visitor filter captures activity not filtered out by Metrics Guard so you can view and store it separately from your other visitor activity data.
