A company can require compliance controls across a whole category of marketing work. A mandatory compliance rule captures that requirement and applies controls to a type of work. When someone creates work that matches an active rule, that work gets its required reviews automatically.

| To create rules for mandatory compliance controls: | Marketing Planning and Operations Compliance Admin permission set group |
A mandatory compliance rule makes one or more compliance controls required for a type of marketing work: campaigns, marketing programs, or marketing tactics. Narrow a rule to a specific slice of that work. You also assign a reviewer to each control, so that the reviewer receives the control's review by default.
- On the Marketing Compliance page of the Marketing Planning & Operations app, click Add Rule.
-
From Applies To, select the type of marketing work that the controls
apply to:
- Marketing Program
- Marketing Tactic
- Campaign
-
If you're adding the rule for a marketing program, select the hierarchy group and the
hierarchy node that the rule applies to.
The hierarchy applies only to marketing programs. Only active hierarchy groups appear in the list.
-
If you're adding the rule for a campaign or marketing tactic, select the record type
that the rule applies to.
Record types apply only to campaigns and marketing tactics.
-
Activate the rule and click Next.
Only active rules apply to marketing work.
-
Select the compliance controls to mandate and click Next.
Only manual controls that have an active version are available to select.
- For each selected control, assign either a user or a user group as the reviewer.
- Click Done.
When someone creates a campaign, marketing program, or marketing tactic that matches an active rule, that record gets its mandatory reviews automatically.
The marketing team at Northern Trail Outfitters (NTO) creates three rules so that new work gets the right reviews automatically.
| Applies To | Narrowed By | Mandatory Control | Reviewer |
|---|---|---|---|
| Marketing Program | Objective node programs in EMEA hierarchy | Regional brand review | EMEA brand team (user group) |
| Campaign | Record type: Email | Data privacy review | Privacy office (user group) |
| Marketing Tactic | Record type: Paid Social | Ad disclosure review | Legal reviewer (user) |
Now, when someone creates a matching marketing program, email campaign, or paid social tactic, that record gets its mandatory review. The review then routes to the assigned reviewer by default.
