Dedicated IP Pools, Requirements, and Status

See how dedicated IP addresses are organized into pools, what to confirm before you request a dedicated IP pool, and how to check provisioning status.

Requirements for Requesting a Dedicated IP

A request that has missing or unknown values can delay provisioning. Marketers must meet these conditions before submitting a request.

  • A dedicated IP pool request is processed only for a fully implemented org.
  • The org has validated DNS for at least one email sending domain.

You can access Authenticated Domain setup pages here in Salesforce Setup | Authenticated Domain.

  • Understand the preferred IP pool option and transition. Then determine whether you require the Salesforce-managed provisioning option or the customer-managed provisioning option. See Salesforce-Managed Provisioning and Customer-Managed Provisioning.

After Salesforce receives a complete, eligible request, provisioning typically takes 5–10 business days.

IP Pools, IP Send Limits, Assignments, and Automatic Routing

Understand how Marketing Cloud Next manages IP pools, send limits, assignments, and automatic routing across domains and pools.

  • 2 IP addresses are allocated: 1 for promotional traffic and 1 for transactional traffic.
  • Each IP address supports a maximum of 2 million sends per day. Higher daily volume requires more IP addresses.
  • IP addresses and pools are assigned at the org level.
  • Marketing Cloud Next automatically routes sends across IP addresses and domains in the shared and dedicated pools.
  • Marketing Cloud Next automatically separates promotional and transactional traffic by the message purpose of the content, which protects deliverability for your most important sends.

To set the message purpose, see Create an Email in Marketing Cloud Next.

Check Provisioning Status

To see where an org is in the move from shared to dedicated IP pools, go to Salesforce Setup | Sending IP Address.

The page reflects the transition option in progress. The IP Management Type field shows which path the org is on, and each row's status shows its current state. What appears depends on whether the org uses a 30-day or an immediate transition.

  • Standard and early 30-day transition

    • IP Management Type: Transition
    • The newly provisioned dedicated IP pool shows In-Process, while the shared row remains Active and continues serving traffic. After 30 days, the shared pool row no longer appears and the dedicated IP pool status shows as Active. The dedicated IP addresses then serve all traffic.
  • Immediate transition

    • IP Management Type: Dedicated
    • The dedicated IP pools appears as Active from day one. No shared row appears, and the dedicated IP addresses serve all traffic immediately.
