Use an Interactive Date Filter Widget

The interactive date filter widget offers an easy way to set and toggle between date ranges on your entire page or for specific widgets of your choice. This option is available for admins, power users, and viewers. But one of its main objectives is to enable viewers to filter the page according to a specific date range.

REQUIRED USER ROLE
To use an interactive date filter widget Admin and Power User
  1. Navigate to the Visualize tab, and enter edit mode by clicking the pencil icon.
  2. Add a new widget by clicking the + icon.
  3. You can search for the interactive date widget in the search bar, or from the left panel, under Interactive, select the Date widget type.

After you add the interactive date widget, you can configure the widget with these options:

  • Name — Name your widget.
  • Dimension — Select the dimension you want to filter by. You can choose any type of date dimension.
    Note
Note When setting a dimension other than the day dimension, the interactive date filter works alongside the page’s date range. The interactive filter date range affects the widget's dimensions, while the page’s date range affects the widget’s measurements.

For example, let’s say you’re setting the interactive date filter’s dimension to Campaign Start Date and the date range to September 1 until September 7. The relevant widgets in the page display dimension values that are linked to campaigns with a campaign start date within this date range. However, the measurements displayed are according to the page’s date range.

  • Restrict Date Range — Select this checkbox to restrict the displayed data to a specific time period. The chosen date range acts as a boundary for the user so that they can’t select any date range outside the restricted time frame. If they do, they receive an error message.
  • Apply Default Values — Select this checkbox to set a default time range to the widget. The chosen date range is applied to the widget by default whenever the page is loaded.
  • Apply to Specific Widgets — If you don’t want to apply the filter to the whole page, from the dropdown list, select the widgets you want to apply the date filter to.
  • Retain User Selection — Select this checkbox to save the date widget settings that are applied per user to a dashboard page or collection. Then, when switching between collections or dashboard pages, the same settings appear.
