NetBase API Connector

Netbase is a Social Listening Platform. They develop Natural Language Processing technology that is used to analyze social media and other web content.

  • Channel: Social
  • Data Stream Type: Social Listening
  • Data Lagging: 1 Day

Prerequisites

Provide a valid Netbase username and password to an Account that has API access. To enable API access, contact your Netbase representative.

General Setup

  • Enter your Netbase credentials, and select the Account you wish to pull data for from the drop-down.
  • The Topics for the selected Account appears in a drop-down. Choose at least one topic you wish to pull data for. Not that each Data Stream retrieval is limited to three Topics, to retrieve data for more than three Topics, it’s recommended that you create additional Data Streams.

Details

  • The Netbase Dimension ‘Topic’ maps to the Entity called ‘Monitor’, which is the Main Entity in the Social Listening Data Stream Type.
  • The Netbase Dimension ‘Documents’ maps to the Marketing Cloud Intelligence Entity called ‘Social Mention’.
  • Marketing Cloud Intelligence pulls Netbase’s data at the ‘Mention’ level, which is the most granular level possible, as it’s the actual social media post. This allows for all the data pulled to be aggregated at that level in the background, while providing you with the flexibility to create the aggregations you wish to see within Marketing Cloud Intelligence.

Known Issues

  • Due to Twitter’s legal limitations, which block the transfer of their post content to third party applications, you won’t be able to retrieve the content of Twitter Mentions into Marketing Cloud Intelligence - but their associated Measurements are retrieved normally.
  • Due to policy agreements between Twitter and NetBase, Tweet IDs won’t be included in the "docID" field returned from the API by default. To retrieve these IDs, contact your NetBase representative and request the IDs to be returned for "retrieveDocuments" and "retrieveSentences" endpoints.
  • Netbase’s API has a low rate limit, meaning that Marketing Cloud Intelligence can only complete one data retrieval per minute, potentially causing delays or processing errors, such as: “Rate Limit” or “Too Many Requests”.

QA Your Data

  1. Log in to your Netbase account and click the ‘Analyze’ tab
  2. Click the ‘All In One’ view
  3. Select the Topic and Date Range you would like to analyze, in the top-left toolbar
  4. After it is applied, select ‘Stream’ in the top-right toolbar
  5. Download the ‘Stream’ data to Excel by clicking the download button on the top left of the screen
  6. Within Marketing Cloud Intelligence, create a Pivot Table for the same Date Range and Topic as the Report you generated in Netbase
  7. Compare the Measurement Totals per row
