Follow a File

Follow a file to see updates in your Chatter feed, including when a new version of the file is uploaded. If you stop following a file, the file remains in your Files list, but you don't see updates about it in your feed anymore.

Required Editions

Available in: Salesforce Classic and Lightning Experience
Available in: Group, Essentials, Professional, Enterprise, Performance, Unlimited, Developer, and Contact Manager Editions

To start seeing updates, click + Follow. To stop seeing updates, click x Unfollow. In Lightning Experience, follow a file from the file detail page. In Salesforce Classic, follow a file from a feed, file detail page, or files list.

Note The option to follow files is available only in organizations that use Chatter. Following a file does not send an email notification.
Important
Important On private files, file metadata is not private. A user without permission to access a private file can nonetheless access the file’s metadata. So, for example, through a private file’s metadata, an unpermitted user can see who’s following the private file.
