For the most reliable connection, use IP if you have a robust IP network. Use Bluetooth next, and then USB. USB connections can require longer troubleshooting because of faulty USB cables.
In a store environment, interference from other devices can cause Bluetooth to disrupt core printer functionality. Test Bluetooth printers in your store environment before you deploy them.
* USB and Bluetooth support for mc-Print 2 requires POS version 10.2.1 or later. Older versions of POS can still connect by using IP.

Device Certification
Any device not listed requires certification. If you prefer to use legacy hardware that isn’t listed, you must self-certify it, which can involve collaborating with the hardware vendor. Refer to Certifying New Hardware for POS app for more details.
We’re working to certify newer models and connectivity types. To request certification for a model or connectivity type that isn’t listed, contact your Account Manager. Certifying a device can take up to two weeks after Salesforce receives the hardware.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What network protocols and wireless
protocols are supported for POS register connectivity?
Connectivity options for POS registers depend on the device being used, such as iPad or iPhone. iPads support Wi-Fi, Ethernet (with a dongle), and Cellular (if purchased with cellular capabilities). Similarly, iPhones support Wi-Fi, Ethernet (with a dongle), and Cellular (if the device has cellular capabilities). For specific details on iOS network protocols supported, refer to the Apple guide Security features when connecting to wireless networks.
Can PC-based simulators run the POS app?
No, the ABM and TestFlight versions of the app are designed to run exclusively on Apple hardware and can’t be operated on simulators. For testing purposes, it’s recommended to use an iPhone SE.
Does Point of Sale recommend specific cases, stands, or peripherals
for connecting devices via cable versus Wi-Fi?
We don’t have specific recommendations for cases, stands, or peripherals. Our customers successfully use both Wi-Fi and cable connections, depending on their preferences and operational needs.
Are there any stand or peripheral options for connecting iPads to printers?
Yes, some recent Epson printers support both network connectivity and direct connection via USB-C. By connecting the iPad to the printer using a USB-C cable, users can establish a reliable connection without needing more peripherals.
