Explore common challenges in Point of Sale receipt layouts, such as text wrapping and spacing issues, which can affect the clarity and readability of receipts. Understand how to handle return and exchange transactions, customize receipt headers and footers, and navigate the hamburger menu for deep linking, ensuring a seamless customer experience.
Text Wrapping
In instances in which text cannot be fully displayed within the width of a grid, the Modern POS will limit text to wrap no more than two lines. Any text which exceeds this will be truncated. Modern POS <= 8.7.1.
Text Spacing
You can add spacing to receipts like this:
Vertical Spacing
- Carriage Return: For standard text, adding a carriage return inserts a blank line on the receipt.
- Empty Grid Row: Within a grid layout, add a row with no content to create vertical space.
Horizontal Spacing
- To add space between lines, such as between product entries, add a blank row that contains one space. This creates visual separation on the receipt without displaying additional content.
Return and Exchange Transactions
If a "Return" and/or "Exchange" receipt layout has no specific receipt layout configured, the "order" receipt layout will be used. Please ensure any static text properly is desired for "return" and "exchange" receipt layouts for this use case.
Receipt Header or Footer
Unlike automatic receipt generation (V1), there is no concept of a receipt header or receipt footer in receipt layouts. For receipts with multiple transactions, the entire receipt layout will be printed for each receipt transaction.
Hamburger Menu Deep Link
When configuring a hamburger menu deep link to a print receipt, there is no ability to select a language. Please do not use receipt layouts when requiring multiple languages in this scenario.
