When you paste a Tableau Next link into a Slack canvas, you can choose to display a
preview of the metric, dashboard, or visualiation (viz) as a card. Unlike sharing a Tableau Next
link in a direct message or channel, previews in Slack canvases regularly refresh data from each
viewer’s perspective. And you can see when the data was last refreshed at the bottom of the card
in the canvas.

Ask your Slack and Salesforce admins to Enable Slack for Tableau
Next.
-
Open a canvas in Slack.
-
Paste a Tableau Next link to a metric, dashboard, or viz.
-
From the Paste As menu, choose Card.
-
Click Refresh to see the latest data within Slack.
Because a preview in a Slack canvas has live data, a viewer must have access to the
object and its data in Tableau Next to view the preview. If the user doesn’t have access to the
object in Tableau Next, then they see a message encouraging them to ask their Tableau Next admin
for access.
