Add and Deploy Verified Queries with a Tableau Next Data Kit

Add verified queries to a Tableau Next data kit, deploy the kit with the semantic model, and confirm each question's status in the target org.

Required Editions

Available in: Tableau Next
Available in: Enterprise, Performance, and Unlimited Editions
User Permissions Needed
To verify queries and confirm their status in Q&A Calibration: Tableau Admin OR Data Analyst
To create and deploy the data kit: Salesforce Admin OR Tableau Admin

Confirm these items before you add or deploy verified questions.

  • Each question shows Verified in Q&A Calibration in the source. Draft queries and the queries in Needs Validation stay in the source.
  • The target org, such as a sandbox, has a Tableau Next license.
  • The semantic model for each verified query already exists in the target org, or that model is in the same data kit.
  • The verified questions are in the default dataspace.

A data kit includes each verified query with the semantic model that the question belongs to. After the data kit deploys, the Tableau Agent in the target org uses that query while the status is Verified.

  1. Open the data kit. From Data Kit Contents, click Add Verified Questions.

Verified questions appear as their own component category, along with data models and data streams.

  2. Search for the questions and select one or more.

Each row shows the question text and its semantic model.

  3. Keep the related semantic model in the data kit.

Tableau Next selects the semantic model for each query and adds the model to the data kit. Deployment fails when that model is absent from the target org.

  4. Save the data kit.
  5. Deploy the data kit to a sandbox or to production.

See Deploy Tableau Next Assets to complete the packaging and deployment.

  6. Open Q&A Calibration, select the deployed semantic model, and confirm the status of each query.

When the Tableau Agent version and the semantic model match the source, the query stays Verified. When the Tableau Agent version differs, Tableau Next sets the status to Needs Validation.

Deployment of a verified query fails in these cases.

  • The target org doesn’t have a Tableau Next license.
  • The same verified query already exists in the target org. The data kit leaves that query unchanged. Remove or rename the query in the target org, and deploy the data kit again.
  • The semantic model is absent from the data kit and from the target org.

When you remove the semantic model from the data kit and that model is in the target org, the queries deploy and the status is Needs Validation. When you keep the semantic model in the data kit, Tableau Next compares the Tableau Agent version in the target org with the version in the source org. The comparison sets the status of each query.

After a successful deployment, each query has a status in Q&A Calibration for that semantic model. Tableau Agent uses the query for grounding while the status is Verified. Tableau Agent skips the query while the status is Needs Validation.

Tableau Next sets the status from the Tableau Agent version in the target org.

Scenario Resulting Status What It Means
The Tableau Agent version in the target org matches the Tableau Agent version in the source org. Verified Tableau Agent uses the query for grounding.
The Tableau Agent version in the target org differs from the Tableau Agent version in the source org. Needs Validation Tableau Agent skips the question until you verify the query again.
The target org has more than one Tableau Agent version active. Needs Validation Tableau Agent skips the query, the same as when the Tableau Agent version differs.
Example
Example

A sales semantic model has this verified question: "What was the pipeline by region last quarter?" The question runs the model's pipeline query. After the data kit deploys, the Tableau Agent in the target org uses that question and that same pipeline query while the status is Verified.

If the status is Needs Validation, verify the question in Q&A Calibration. Tableau Agent uses the queries for grounding after you verify the question.
