Upload processing modes in Tableau Next are based on file size and column count
thresholds. Files exceeding standard limits are automatically queued for asynchronous
processing, optimizing resource allocation without impacting platform stability.

The table outlines the processing mode for different file types and sizes:
| File Type |

Standard |
| Excel (.xlsx) |
10 MB up to 100 MB OR 95–500 columns |

Column Count Thresholds
Each data type limit is 800 columns. While a dataset can contain more than 800 total columns
across different types, it can’t exceed 800 columns of any single type. For example, a file
with 800 text fields and 250 number fields is acceptable. A file with 801 text fields and 10
number fields returns an error.
