Tableau Next MCP Beta Server Tool Reference (Beta)

This reference contains beta tools for Tableau Next Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server. Each tool is organized by its category in alphabetical order

Note Tableau Next MCP Beta Server is a pilot or beta service that is subject to the Beta Services Terms at Agreements - Salesforce.com or a written Unified Pilot Agreement if executed by Customer, and applicable terms in the Product Terms Directory. Use of this pilot or beta service is at the Customer's sole discretion.

Connect

create_data_model_object	Create a new Data Model Object (DMO) in Data 360. Tool 1 of the two-tool DMO-from-DLO flow.
create_data_stream	Create a Data Stream and its associated DLO in a single call, for a file or database source.
create_dlo_to_dmo_mapping	Create the 1:1 field map linking a DLO to a DMO. Tool 2 of the two-tool DMO-from-DLO flow. Not idempotent.
create_file_data_stream	Create a file-based Data Stream and its associated DLO in a single call. Step 5 of the file-upload flow. Defaults to also creating a DMO.
delete_connection	Permanently delete a CDP data connection by its ID.
generate_presigned_credential	Generate a presigned S3 PUT URL for uploading a CSV or Excel file. Step 1 of the file-upload flow.
get_connection	Retrieve the full record for a single CDP data connection by its ID.
get_data_stream	Retrieve status and details of a Data Stream. Poll after run_data_stream to track ingestion progress.
get_upload_connection	Retrieve the singleton UploadedFiles connection for this org. Step 3 of the file-upload flow.
infer_file_schema	Infer column names and data types from an uploaded file. Step 4 of the file-upload flow. Present to the user for confirmation before creating the stream.
list_connections	Enumerate CDP data connections of a given connector type in the org.
list_data_connection_objects	Enumerate objects available in a connection: Excel sheet names or database tables.
list_file_sheets	Enumerate sheet names in an uploaded Excel file. Use before infer_file_schema when the source is Excel.
run_data_stream	Trigger ingestion of the uploaded file into the DLO. Step 6 of the file-upload flow. The stream must be in Active status before you call this tool.
test_existing_connection	Test whether an existing CDP data connection is reachable and its credentials still work.

Dashboard

add_dashboard_page	Add a new page to an existing dashboard's layout. Handles read-modify-write internally.
add_global_filter_to_dashboard	Add a global filter widget to a dashboard backed by a Semantic Model field. Handles read-modify-write internally.
add_widget_to_dashboard	Add a widget (viz, text, filter, image, or metric) to a dashboard and place it on the grid atomically.
create_dashboard	Create a new Tableau Next dashboard in the current org.
delete_dashboard	Delete a Tableau Next dashboard. This action is permanent and can't be undone, so proceed with caution.
get_dashboard	Retrieve a single dashboard's full metadata, including layout, widgets, owning workspace, and URL.
list_dashboards	Enumerate Tableau Next dashboards (metadata only) for discovery in the current org.
remove_dashboard_page	Remove a page (and its widgets) from a dashboard by 0-based page index. Handles read-modify-write internally.
remove_widget_from_dashboard	Remove a widget and all its layout placements from a dashboard atomically.
update_dashboard	Update an existing dashboard by replacing the full record. Call get_dashboard first, then send back the full widgets and layouts, including your changes, in a single update_dashboard call. If you send only your changes, the update overwrites the dashboard with just those changes.

Promote and Reuse

create_promotion_pull_request	Download the metadata package for a completed Promotion request and create a pull request. Prerequisite: the packageExportStatus field must be Ready.
create_reuse_promotion_request	Create a Reuse (pull a production asset into a personal org) or Promotion (package a personal org asset for production) request.
get_promotion_reuse_request	Retrieve a single Reuse or Promotion request by ID. Use to poll status through its lifecycle.
list_promotion_reuse_requests	Enumerate Reuse (or Promotion) requests in the current org with optional filters. Always pass requestType=reuse to scope results.

Query

run_query	Execute a PostgreSQL-like Hyper SQL query against Data Cloud DLOs and DMOs and return the first result chunk.

Search Assets

browse_data_assets	Browse and discover data assets across all types by keyword or asset type. Primary discovery endpoint for DLOs, DMOs, Calculated Insight Objects (CIOs), dashboards, visualizations, workspaces, and Semantic Data Models (SDMs).

Semantic Modeling

add_semantic_model_calculated_dimension	Add a calculated dimension (derived categorical TuA expression) to a semantic model.
add_semantic_model_calculated_measure	Add a calculated measure (derived numeric TuA expression) to a semantic model.
add_semantic_model_data_object	Add a data object (entity or table—DLO, DMO, or CIO) to a semantic model. Prefer DMOs over raw DLOs.
add_semantic_model_dimension	Add a raw dimension (categorical, date, or text column) to a data object in an SDM.
add_semantic_model_measure	Add a raw measure (numeric aggregation column) to a data object in an SDM.
add_semantic_model_metric	Add a business metric or KPI to a semantic model. timeDimensionReference is required, even for non-time aggregations.
add_semantic_model_parameter	Add a parameter (dynamic filter input) to a semantic model.
add_semantic_model_relationship	Add a relationship (join) between two data objects in a semantic model. joinType must be Auto for model-level relationships.
classify_analytics_interactions	Update one or more analytics classifications in a single request. Supports single or batch classification updates.
classify_answer	Verify (create as a VQ), reject as inaccurate, or update the classification of one or more classifications.
create_analytics_utterances	Create one or more analytics utterance records. Creates the question only, without an interaction or agent response.

create_semantic_model_data_object	Create a new data object within a semantic model. Use this tool to add an existing Data Cloud object (DMO, DLO, or CIO) as a new entity that can participate in relationships, metrics, and other semantic definitions.
create_semantic_model_logical_view	Create a logical view (a pre-joined, filtered, or union-shaped virtual table) on a semantic model.
create_semantic_model_metric	Create a new business metric within a semantic model. Use this tool to define a new metric that tracks a measure over a specific time dimension, with filters and other properties.
create_semantic_model_relationship	Create a new relationship between data objects within a semantic model. Use this tool to define the join criteria between data objects for querying and analysis.
delete_analytics_utterances	Delete multiple analytics utterances by their API names. Deletes the question only.

generate_descriptions	Auto-generate human-readable descriptions for fields, measures, or data objects lacking them. Enriches model metadata so agents better understand field semantics without manual authoring.
generate_questions	Auto-generate test questions for a semantic model to help maintain agent accuracy.
get_analytics_full_interaction	Get a single analytics full interaction (utterance, classification, and sample interaction) by utterance API name.
get_analytics_utterance	Get a single analytics utterance by API name. Returns question text and metadata only.
get_dlo_to_dmo_mapping_status	Check the status of a data mapping between a raw data source (DLO) and a modeled business object (DMO).
get_semantic_model	Retrieve the full profile of one semantic model. Pass includeModelContent=true for a complete snapshot in a single call.
get_semantic_model_calculated_dimension	Retrieve the full formula and data type definition for a specific calculated dimension.
get_semantic_model_calculated_measure	Retrieve the full calculation details for a numeric derived field, including aggregation types.
get_semantic_model_data_object	Retrieve the complete definition of a specific data object within a semantic model, including its metadata, fields, measures, and dimensions. Use this tool when you need the full details of a single data object.
get_semantic_model_logical_view	Retrieve the structure (data objects, joins, and filters) of one logical view in an SDM. This tool is read-only—no create_logical_view tool exists.
get_semantic_model_metric	Retrieve the full definition of one metric or KPI in an SDM.
get_semantic_model_relationship	Retrieve the complete definition of a specific relationship, including the connected data objects, join conditions, cardinality, and other relationship metadata.
list_analytics_interactions	Retrieve a paginated list of analytics full interactions (question-and-answer pairs) with optional filtering. Returns all questions across all models in a single call.
list_semantic_model_calculated_dimensions	Enumerate calculated dimensions (formula-based grouping fields) in an SDM.
list_semantic_model_calculated_measures	Enumerate calculated measures (formula-based numeric fields) in an SDM.
list_semantic_model_data_objects	Enumerate data objects (entities) defined in a semantic model.
list_semantic_model_dependencies	Show how the definitions in a semantic model depend on each other. For a given model, return a map of what each definition—calculated dimension, calculated measure, metric, or relationship—depends on.
list_semantic_model_dimensions	Enumerate raw dimensions for a specific data object in an SDM.
list_semantic_model_measures	Enumerate raw measures for a specific data object in an SDM.
list_semantic_model_metrics	Enumerate business metrics or KPIs defined in an SDM. Returns full metric definitions.
list_semantic_model_parameters	Enumerate parameters (dynamic filter or range inputs) defined on a semantic model.
list_semantic_model_relationships	Enumerate relationships (joins) between data objects in a semantic model.
list_semantic_models	Enumerate Semantic Data Models available to the caller, with optional filtering.
run_regression_evaluator	Run the evaluator on a given existing question that has a response (actual) and an expected query, given by the user or stored in the database.
scan_relationships	Suggest relationships between data objects in a semantic model. Identifies missing or implicit relationships to improve agent query accuracy.
scan_similarities	List similar fields, measures, or dimensions across data objects in a semantic model. Identifies redundant or ambiguous fields that can confuse agents.
update_analytics_utterance	Update an analytics utterance by API name (for example, update the utterance text, model API name, agent type, or source type).
update_and_classify_analytics_interaction	Update an analytics interaction-with-classification record by classification ID (for example, update sample interaction data or agent response).
update_semantic_model	Update model-level properties of a semantic model, such as the label, description, categories, or business preferences. This tool doesn't update fields or relationships.
update_semantic_model_calculated_dimension	Modify the formula or metadata of an existing calculated dimension.
update_semantic_model_calculated_measure	Modify the expression or properties of an existing calculated measure.
update_semantic_model_data_object	Update the definition or metadata of an existing data object within a semantic model. Use this tool to modify the metadata, fields, or filters of a single data object.
update_semantic_model_dimension	Update a dimension on a data object. This is a sparse update.
update_semantic_model_logical_view	Update entity-level properties, such as the description or filters, of a logical view.
update_semantic_model_measure	Update a measure on a data object. This is a sparse update.
update_semantic_model_metric	Update a metric or KPI using a full PUT replace. Resend the label, measurementReference, timeDimensionReference, and insightsSettings values with every call.
update_semantic_model_parameter	Update a parameter on a semantic model. This is a full replacement, not a partial patch.
update_semantic_model_relationship	Update an existing relationship within a semantic model, such as its join definition, cardinality, or metadata.

Sharing and Access

edit_visualization	Create a new visualization from a semantic model using natural-language specifications. Returns a rendered visualization with the specified chart type, fields, and styling.
get_visualization	Retrieve a single visualization's full metadata, including encoding spec and filters.
list_visualizations	Enumerate visualizations or worksheets (metadata only) across the current org.
render_visualization	Search for existing visualizations using keywords or criteria and return rendered results. Combines discovery and display in a single operation.
show_dashboard	Search for existing dashboards using keywords or criteria and return rendered results. Combines discovery and display in a single operation.

Workspace

add_workspace_asset	Add an existing org asset to a workspace by asset ID and asset type. Re-adds return a 304 status silently.
create_workspace	Create a new Tableau Next workspace in the current org.
delete_workspace	Delete a workspace. This action is permanent and can't be undone, so proceed with caution. Cascade-deletes all Created-typed assets, including dashboards, visualizations, and SDMs.
list_workspace_assets	Enumerate assets, including dashboards, visualizations, and semantic models, scoped to a specific workspace.
list_workspaces	Enumerate workspaces, or fetch one by ID. Returns the ID, name, label, permissions, and URL.
remove_workspace_asset	Remove an asset reference from a workspace. This removes the link only and doesn't delete the underlying asset.
