Note
Note After July '26, to create a Tableau Agent with conversational analytics, you must use the new Analytics and Visualization V2 template and its Data Analysis subagent. Admins must start in the Agentforce Studio app to create a new agent.

The Analytics and Visualization V2 template requires the Data Q&A Indexing and Semantic Enrichments setting to be enabled in Data 360, and the Tableau Agent and Data Analysis settings to be enabled in Tableau Next.

Confirm these settings are enabled as described in the section "Confirm the Data Q&A Indexing and Semantic Enrichments Setting is Enabled in Data 360" and "Activate Tableau Agent in Tableau Next" in Set Up Tableau Agent in Tableau Next .

  1. From the App Launcher, enter Agent, and then select the Agentforce Studio app.
  2. On the Agents tab, click New Agent.
  3. In Agentforce Builder, find the Analytics and Visualization V2 agent template, and then click Select. Enter the agent's name and then click Let's Go.
If you already created an agent in a previous version of Tableau Next, you may see an Analytics and Visualization Legacy template and an Analytics and Visualization V2 template in Agentforce Builder or Agentforce Studio. Select the Analytics and Visualization V2 template.
  4. In the Settings section, define the settings that determine how your agent behaves in conversations, such as system messages and language settings.
  5. In the Subagents section, confirm that Data Analysis is listed as a subagent.
  6. To give your users access to the new agent, add the new agent to the agent access list for a permission set, and add users to that permission set. For information, see Manage Employee Agent Access.
    1. From Setup, in the Quick Find box, enter Permission, and then select Permission Sets. Open an existing permission set. Or, click New to create and save it.
    2. In the Apps section, click Agent Access tab, and then click Edit.
    3. Select your agent in the list, click Add (right arrow), and then click Save.
    4. In the Permission Sets page, click Manage Assignments. Add users to this permission set.
  7. When you're ready, activate your agent.
    1. In the Agentforce Builder page, click Activate to make the agent live. Note that you might see a "Configuration Issues Detected" message. Continue with activation. The steps that follow should resolve any issues.
  8. Verify the new agent in Tableau Next.
    1. Open a metric or dashboard in Tableau Next.
    2. Click the Agentforce button Agentforce icon to open the Agentforce panel.
    3. In the Select Agent list, select the new agent.
    4. Ask a question about the data and verify a response is generated.
You can test your agent and confirm that it performs as expected and meets your security standards on the Preview tab. For more details about testing, see Preview and Test in Agentforce Builder.
  9. In the Tableau Next menu, click Q&A Calibration to test and verify questions and answers for the agent (based on the selected agent and its associated semantic model). Q&A Calibration requires an admin to enable the Q&A Calibration setting in Tableau Next settings.
If you've used Q&A Calibration with an agent based on the legacy Analytics and Visualization template, questions in Verified Question lists for preexisting agents will be marked as Needs Verification. You will need to revalidate questions for existing and new agents.
  10. In the Tableau Next menu, click Agent Settings to set up a fallback list of semantic models to serve as context for the agent in situations where the context is ambiguous. For details, see Set Up Agent Scoping for Tableau Agent in Tableau Next.
    • Optional: Click the LLM Model tab in Agent Settings to configure the model mode as Best Accuracy (offers enhanced reasoning) or Best Performance (offers faster responses).
