Apply best practices throughout your Tableau Pulse journey.
Follow these best practice procedures and resources.
- Validate your Metric configuration
- Test the configuration by validating that the metrics are accurately calculated, displayed correctly, and accessible to the intended users.
- Add users as followers to Metrics
- Use the Pulse UI and manually add individuals.
- Set up User
Groups
- After your metric definitions are built and related metrics are set up, you’ll need to identify which users need to be added to each metric. Depending on how users are managed in your Tableau Cloud environment, it might help to create User Groups since Pulse allows you to add a group as a follower to a metric.
- Use the REST API to add a batch of users to a metric.
- Host an Enablement Session for End Users
- Deliver an overview of Pulse and train your end users on the use case and share best practices for effectively integrating the tool into their flow of work. End users can learn more by taking Pulse Trailhead courses.
- Encourage users to explore Pulse
- Explore metrics in detail, adjust the time range, apply filters, and follow.
- Set up Metric Digests for Email and Slack.
- Set Pulse as their start page in Tableau Mobile.
- Certify your Pulse Metrics
with a Pulse HQ
- Help new Pulse users know what metrics to get started with, preventing the need for an analyst to set up folks individually or what can't be done with user groups.
- Ensures consistency and accuracy by displaying only verified metrics for specific departments or user groups - feel free to copy and make multiple versions for each of your departments: Sales, Marketing, Operations or more!
- This ensures data stays relevant and up-to-date as business needs evolve, easily add new metrics, explore adding additional messaging, links to documentation, or information as you see fit for the audience.
