Line charts are good for showing changes in the value of an item
over a series of points in time, such as week to week or quarter to quarter. Use a line chart
when you have one important grouping representing an ordered set of data and one value to
show.

Line charts are useful for showing data over time. For example, to
see the numbers of leads created each month in a report, set record count as the
Y-axis and created month for the X-axis. The
chart displays a line connecting the record count totals for each month. Salesforce
does not plot missing (null) values.
If a missing value occurs in the middle of a data set, Salesforce displays a gap in the
line.
- Grouped Line Charts
Use a grouped line chart when you have multiple groupings—each with one important secondary grouping representing an ordered set of data—and one value to show.
