You can use a calculated field in a relationship, but only under specific conditions:

  • The calculated field must reference only fields from the data object being connected, both in its formula and filters.
  • If a calculated field references another calculated field, the referenced field must follow the same rule.
  • If the calculated field is a measure, it can't include any aggregation methods.
Important
Important When querying relationships, Tableau Semantics determines the join type based on the relationship and context of the query. To configure the join type manually, use logical views. See Logical Views.
