Customize Tableau Agent

Skills and expertise

Much of Tableau Agent’s behavior in Tableau Studio is driven by a set of files:

  • skills — reusable capabilities that carry the procedural steps, rules, and judgment the agent applies to your requests
  • expertise coming at GA — conceptual and procedural knowledge that helps the agent understand and make decisions about your prompt.

To suit your needs, you can change how the agent authors, formats, and reasons about your work by customizing skills and customizing expertise.

Choosing formatting

All existing Tableau Desktop features for using pre-existing templates, themes, and bookmarks are still available in Tableau Studio.

Now, you can prompt Tableau Agent to use a saved theme or bookmark and it will apply that formatting when it builds or updates a view. If you encode that choice as a memory - like “ALWAYS use my-bar-chart-worksheet.tbh instead of the standard form of bar chart.” - the agent will make that choice each time, instead of requiring you to re-select the theme or bookmark by hand every time.

Memories

coming at GA

In Tableau Agent, memories are persistent rules for your Tableau Studio workspace. They apply to every prompt made in the agent chat so that you can avoid repeating or missing instructions that the agent should always follow.
