# Database Drivers

Tableau connectors require a driver to talk to the database. Before you can connect to data sources from Tableau Server, you must install drivers for the data sources you want to connect to. You can find driver links and installation instructions for all the supported connectors on the [Driver Download page](https://www.tableau.com/en-gb/support/drivers).

**Important:** Beginning with version 2023.1.0 you must install the PostgreSQL driver if you want to use the built-in [administrative views](https://help.tableau.com/current/server/en-gb/adminview.htm). You can find this on the [Driver Download page](https://www.tableau.com/en-gb/support/drivers).

## Installing drivers in a multi-node Server

You need to install the drivers for your data sources on the initial node in a Tableau Server cluster. If you install Tableau Server on multiple nodes, you must also install drivers on every node that runs any of the following processes:

- Application Server (Vizportal)
- Backgrounder
- Data Server
- VizQL Server

## Stop Server before updating drivers

When updating a driver, we recommend you stop Tableau Server before installing the new driver version and uninstalling the old one. This may not be required for all drivers, but stopping Server ensures all connections use the updated driver without conflict.
