# Resource management

> [!TIP]
>
> This content is part of Tableau Blueprint – a maturity framework allowing you to zoom in and improve how your organisation uses data to drive impact. To begin your journey, take our [assessment](https://www.tableau.com/en-gb/learn/webinars/tableaus-blueprint-self-assessment).

Note: This topic applies to Tableau Server only.

While site administrators should be maintaining fresh and relevant content on their sites as outlined in [Measurement of Tableau user engagement and adoption](https://help.tableau.com/v0.0/blueprint/en-gb/bp_measure_user_engagement.htm), server administrators have oversight of the entire server and how the server’s resources are utilised as outlined in [Tableau Monitoring](https://help.tableau.com/v0.0/blueprint/en-gb/bp_monitoring.htm). The standards you define should be documented and published on the [Tableau enablement intranet](https://help.tableau.com/v0.0/blueprint/en-gb/bp_enablement_intranet.htm), which is explained in [Tableau communications](https://help.tableau.com/v0.0/blueprint/en-gb/bp_communications.htm). Remember that system performance is a shared responsibility.

## Stale content audit

If content is published with a scheduled refresh but not viewed, it is consuming system resources and potentially making it harder for users to locate more relevant content in Tableau Server. The unused content will also add to backup and restore times in Tableau Server. Stale content should be removed two to four times per year. For more information, see [Stale Content](https://help.tableau.com/current/server/en-gb/adminview-stale-content.htm).

## Size audit

Monitor content by establishing policies around workbooks and data source size. Set [data-driven alerts](https://help.tableau.com/current/pro/desktop/en-gb/data_alerts.htm) on the Stats for Space Usage view to identify which workbooks and data sources exceed the expected size limit, using the version of the default admin views workbook you downloaded and published with extracted data sources. For example, if you set a standard that extract sizes should be less than 1 GB, then alert for anything larger.

## Load time audit

Monitor content by establishing policies around workbook load times. Set [data-driven alerts](https://help.tableau.com/current/pro/desktop/en-gb/data_alerts.htm) on long view load times using the version of the default admin views workbook you downloaded and published with extracted data sources. For workbooks with long load times, use [Tableau Desktop’s](https://help.tableau.com/current/pro/desktop/en-gb/perf_record_create_desktop.htm) or [Tableau Server’s](https://help.tableau.com/current/server/en-gb/perf_record_create_server.htm) Performance Recorder to dive deeper into the events and timing.
