# Database Maintenance

> [!TIP]
>
> This content is part of Tableau Blueprint – a maturity framework allowing you to zoom in and improve how your organisation uses data to drive impact. To begin your journey, take our [assessment](https://www.tableau.com/en-gb/learn/webinars/tableaus-blueprint-self-assessment).

Note: This topic applies to Tableau Server only.

Database maintenance creates free space on the Tableau Server deployment by deleting old files, including log files, temp files and rows from the http\_requests table. If you are running Tableau Server on a distributed deployment, run the [tsm maintenance cleanup command](https://help.tableau.com/current/server/en-gb/cli_maintenance_tsm.htm#tsm-maintenance-cleanup) on the node that is running the TSM Controller process. By default, the controller is on the initial node in the cluster ([Windows](https://help.tableau.com/current/server/en-gb/cli_maintenance_tsm.htm) | [Linux](https://help.tableau.com/current/server-linux/en-gb/cli_maintenance_tsm.htm)).

Note: If you need historical data in http\_requests for audit analysis, ETL the data from the http\_requests table to another database prior to executing the cleanup commands. If cleanup commands are part of your backup script, data in the http\_requests table is truncated.
