# Step 7: Build Out Tableau Next

> [!WARNING]
>
> As of October 14, 2025, Data Cloud has been rebranded to Data 360. During this transition, you may see references to Data Cloud in our application and documentation. While the name is new, the functionality and content remains unchanged.

**Who does this step?** Any user with Tableau Next Admin, Tableau Next Platform Analyst, or Tableau Next Self-Service Analyst permission set.

**About this step:** With setup complete and features enabled, you and your team are ready to analyze and take action on your data in Tableau Next.

## Create Workspaces

**Why:** Everything in Tableau Next is created inside a workspace. A workspace is a flexible place for analysts to create and reuse analytic assets to answer questions about their data.

How to do it

1. On the Tableau Next home page, click New Workspace.
2. Name the workspace.
3. Add a description for the workspace.

Learn more: [Analyze Data in Tableau Next Workspaces](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=analytics.tua_workspace_about.htm)

## Connect Data to Workspaces

**Why:** Tableau Next relies on data from Data Cloud. This can either be accessing existing assets in Data Cloud, or uploading data (such as a CSV or Excel file) from Tableau Next into Data Cloud.

How to do it

1. Add an existing data asset.

    1. On the workspace tab, click Add and then select Existing Asset.
    2. In the Select an Object to Add window, select the assets to upload.
    3. To narrow your search, filter the assets by type or enter a name in the Search box.
    4. Click Select.
2. Upload a file.

    1. From a new workspace: click Connect to New Data, and then click Upload Files.
    2. From an existing workspace: click Add, select New Data, and then click Upload Files.

## Create Semantic Models

**Why:** With semantic models, your data becomes unified into a single source of truth, accessible throughout Salesforce. Semantic models provide a way for your data to be interpreted consistently across Salesforce by mapping it to standardized business terms and logic.

How to do it

1. From your workspace, click Add and select New Semantic Model.
2. Select the data model object that you want to build relationships on, and click Select.
3. To add another data object, under Data Objects, click the plus icon.
4. If you want to connect the data objects based on a common field, you can create a relationship. You can either do this manually, or you can let Einstein [suggest relationships](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=analytics.tua_data_sdm_suggest_rel.htm) for you.
5. Click Show Suggestions and then review the suggestions and apply if needed. You can always turn suggestions on or off using the Suggested Relationships toggle.
6. Continue building your model by adding more data objects, calculated fields, parameters, and logical views. For more information, see [Structure Data within a Semantic Model](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=analytics.c360_a_sl_data_model_builder.htm).

**Note:** If you want to use Concierge to explore metric details and dashboards with natural language, you need to Enable Analytics Agent Readiness on the semantic model that metric or dashboard is built from.

## Define and Add Metrics

**Why:** A metric is a business KPI that you can track over time and use to assess performance or business processes. A metric is derived from one or more measures. You can apply a sentiment to a metric (for example, up is good or bad), aggregation (for example, sum, non-cumulative, average, minimum, maximum), and other business contexts.

How to do it

1. From your workspace, open the model that you want to use for defining a metric.
2. To create a new metric, from the New dropdown, select Metrics.
3. Define the metric. For more information, see [Create a Metric for a Semantic Model in Data 360](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=analytics.c360_a_sl_metrics_create.htm).

## Build Visualizations and Dashboards

**Why:** Tableau Next is a platform for visual analytics. Visualizations and dashboards are essential for analyzing data in Tableau Next.

How to do it

Creating visualizations and dashboards is too complex for a single step-by-step section in this guide. Read through these help documents to understand how to build out feature-rich visualizations and dashboards in Tableau Next.

- [Build Insightful Visualizations in Tableau Next](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=analytics.tua_create_viz.htm)

Visualizations are visual representations of your data as a chart or graph. A visualization is a powerful way to explore and analyze data. In Tableau Next, you can build visualizations with rich features, filters, calculations, and actions.

- [Create Effective Dashboards With Tableau Next](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=analytics.tua_create_dashboard.htm)

The Tableau Einstein dashboard is designed to streamline your workflow by providing a clear, intuitive overview of all the critical information you need. Whether you’re tracking performance metrics, managing tasks, or monitoring key data, dashboards bring everything together in one place.

## Share and Embed Assets

**Why:** Share your workspaces and assets with other users. Embed Tableau Next metrics and dashboards into Lightning pages.

How to do it

1. Share a Tableau Next asset with a user

    1. On a workspace, dashboard, visualization, or semantic model, click Share.
    2. On the Manage Access tab, enter the name of the user you want to share with, then select the user.
    3. For workspaces, select the Viewer or Editor role for the user. Only the Viewer role is available for other asset types.
    4. Click Add.
    5. Click Done to close the share options.
2. Add a Tableau Next Dashboard to a Lightning Page

    1. On the Lightning page you want to embed a dashboard in, click the Setup icon and select Edit Page.
    2. From the Lightning App Builder component palette, select Tableau Next Dashboard and drag the component onto the page.
    3. In the component properties panel, use the dashboard dropdown list to select the dashboard to embed and configure the rest of the properties.
    4. After you embed your component, save and activate your Lightning page.
3. Add a Tableau Next Dashboard to a Lightning Page

    1. On the Lightning page you want to embed a metric in, click the Setup icon and select Edit Page.
    2. From the Lightning App Builder component palette, select Tableau Next Metric and drag the component onto the page.
    3. In the component properties panel, configure the properties.
    4. After you embed your component, save and activate your Lightning page.
