# Set the Site Time Zone for Extracts

The default time zone for extract-based data sources in a site is Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). Server administrators can set a different time zone.

To set the site time zone for extracts:

1. Sign in to Tableau as an administrator.
2. On the site you want to configure, click `Settings`.
3. In the `Site Time Zone for Extracts` section, select a time zone and then click `Save`.

In calculated fields, functions such as NOW() or TODAY() look at the time zone. For more information about Extracts, see [Extract Your Data](https://help.tableau.com/current/pro/desktop/en-us/extracting_data.htm) in the Tableau Desktop help.

The timezone setting, in addition to being used for extract-based data sources, also affects internal extracts. For example, when Tableau connects to file-based data sources like text files, an extract is automatically created internally. Similarly, this happens where Tableau uses an internal extract to integrate data from different sources.

The timezone setting also affects how relative-date filter captions are rendered.

**Note:** When viewing a workbook in a browser, relative-date filter captions (e.g., "Last 7 Days") display using your local time zone. However, exported files (Download > Image or Download > PDF) are rendered on the Tableau Cloud pod, which uses the pod's time zone. This can cause the exported filter caption to differ from your browser view by up to one day. This only affects the caption text and your underlying data remains accurate. To maintain consistent captions across browser and exported views, use a **Range of Dates** filter with fixed start and end dates instead.
