# tableau Mobile - Full Documentation [Skip to main content](#main-content) # Control Authentication and Access for Tableau Mobile ## Supported authentication methods ### Tableau Server Tableau Mobile supports the following authentication methods for Tableau Server.
Method Considerations for Tableau Mobile
Local (basic) authentication
Kerberos
  • iOS only
SAML
NTLM
Mutual SSL
OpenID Connect
For information about configuring these methods, see the Tableau Server Help for [Windows](https://help.tableau.com/current/server/en-us/security_auth.htm) and [Linux](https://help.tableau.com/current/server-linux/en-us/security_auth.htm). ### Tableau Cloud Tableau Mobile supports all three authentication methods for Tableau Cloud. - Default Tableau method - Google via OpenID Connect ([Sign in with Device Browser](#device-browser) must be enabled) - SAML For information about configuring these methods, see [Authentication](https://help.tableau.com/current/online/en-us/help.htm#security_auth.htm) in the Tableau Cloud Help. ### Authentication with the device browser OpenID Connect (including Google) and mutual SSL authentication takes place using the mobile device's browser (Safari, Chrome). The exchange between the browser and Tableau Mobile is secured by OAuth [Proof Key for Code Exchange](https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc7636) (PKCE). For this authentication to take place, you must enable the Sign in with Device Browser setting, by following the instructions below. The one exception to this requirement is mutual SSL authentication on Android, which requires no configuration changes. #### Tableau Server (version 2019.4 or later) If you use an MDM or MAM system, set the [AppConfig parameter](https://help.tableau.com/current/mobile/mobile-admin/en-us/admin_mobile_ace.htm#parameters), RequireSignInWithDeviceBrowser, to true. Alternatively, Tableau Server users can enable the "Sign in with Device Browser" setting on their individual devices. The AppConfig parameter overrides the user setting. #### Tableau Cloud Set the [AppConfig parameter](https://help.tableau.com/current/mobile/mobile-admin/en-us/admin_mobile_ace.htm#parameters), RequireSignInWithDeviceBrowser, to true. To set AppConfig parameters, you need to deploy the app with an MDM or MAM system. The user setting has no effect for Tableau Cloud, so if you don't use an MDM or MAM system, you won't be able to allow Google authentication. ### Override the default browser used for authentication When you configure Tableau Mobile to use the browser for authentication, it uses the default browser for the device: Safari for iOS and Chrome for Android. To enable Conditional Access for Microsoft Intune, you must configure Tableau Mobile to use Microsoft Edge for authentication instead. This requires two AppConfig parameters: - Set `RequireSignInWithDeviceBrowser` to `true`, to make it so Tableau Mobile uses the browser for authentication. - Set `OverrideDeviceBrowser` to `Edge`, to change the browser used to authenticate from the device default to Microsoft Edge. If you change this parameter without requiring sign in with the browser, it will have no effect. For more information, see the [AppConfig parameters for Tableau Mobile](https://help.tableau.com/current/mobile/mobile-admin/en-us/admin_mobile_ace.htm#parameters). In addition to setting the AppConfig parameters for Tableau Mobile, configure your Microsoft Intune environment as follows: - If you use Azure App Proxy, it must use passthrough as its preauthentication method. - The authentication method must be SAML or OpenID. - The identity provider must be Azure Active Directory. ## Temporarily keep users signed in To temporarily keep Tableau Mobile users signed in, make sure that connected clients are enabled for Tableau Cloud or Tableau Server. If you disable this default setting, users will be required to sign in every time they connect to the server. ### Verify the connected clients setting for Tableau Cloud 1. Sign in to Tableau Cloud as an administrator. 2. Select Settings, and then select the Authentication tab. 3. Under Connected Clients, note the Let clients automatically connect to this Tableau Cloud site setting. For more information, see [Access Sites from Connected Clients](https://help.tableau.com/current/online/en-us/to_connected_clients.htm) in Tableau Cloud Help. ### Verify the connected clients setting for Tableau Server 1. Sign in to Tableau Server as an administrator. 2. In the site menu, select Manage All Sites, and then select Settings > General. 3. Under Connected Clients, note the Let clients automatically connect to Tableau Server setting. For more information, see [Disable Automatic Client Authentication](https://help.tableau.com/current/server/en-us/devices_connected_credentials.htm) in Tableau Server Help. ### Change how long users remain signed in to Tableau Server If the connected clients setting isn't enabled, the length of a session on Tableau Mobile is controlled by Tableau Server limits. If the connected clients setting is enabled, Tableau Mobile uses OAuth tokens to re-establish sessions that hit the Tableau session limit. This automatic re-authentication keeps users signed in as long as the refresh tokens are valid. For this re-authentication to take place, the duration of the refresh tokens must be longer than the Tableau session limit. Otherwise, the user is signed out when the session expires. #### Change token values for connected clients To keep a user signed in, Tableau Mobile sends a refresh token to the authentication system, which then delivers a new access token to the mobile device. You can change how long users remain signed in by adjusting settings for refresh tokens. In the command-line interface for Tableau Services Manager, set the following options: refresh\_token.idle\_expiry\_in\_seconds Sets the number of seconds a token can go unused before expiring. The default value of 1,209,600 equals 14 days. Enter a value of -1 to never expire idle tokens. refresh\_token.absolute\_expiry\_in\_seconds Sets the number of seconds before refresh tokens completely expire. The default value of 31,536,000 equals 365 days. Enter a value of -1 to never expire tokens. refresh\_token.max\_count\_per\_user Sets the maximum number of refresh tokens that can be issued to each user. The default value is 24. Enter a value of -1 to entirely remove token limits. To set the options above, use this syntax in the command-line interface: `tsm configuration set -k -v `. For example, to limit the number of refresh tokens to 5 per user, you would enter the following: `tsm configuration set -k -v <5>` For more information, see [TSM configuration set Options](https://help.tableau.com/current/server/en-us/cli_configuration-set_tsm.htm) in Tableau Server Help. #### Change session limits for Tableau Server If you disable connected clients, the session limits for Tableau Server determine the length of a session on Tableau Mobile. These limits don't affect connected clients, because refresh tokens re-establish the session as long as the tokens are valid. For more information, see [Verify session lifetime configuration](https://help.tableau.com/current/server/en-us/security_harden.htm#10-verify-session-lifetime-configuration) in Tableau Server Help. In the command-line interface for Tableau Services Manager, set the following option: wgserver.session.idle\_limit Sets the number of minutes before a Tableau session expires, again requiring sign in. The default value is 240. ## Enable app lock for added security Long-lived authentication tokens allow users to remain signed in, giving them frictionless access to data. However, you might have concerns about this open access to data in Tableau Mobile. Rather than requiring users to sign in more frequently, you can enable app lock to give users a secure yet simple way to access content. App lock for Tableau Mobile doesn't authenticate users with Tableau Server or Tableau Cloud; instead, it provides a layer of security for users who are already signed in. When app lock is enabled, users must open the app using the security method they have configured for unlocking their devices. Supported biometric methods are Face ID or Touch ID (iOS) and fingerprint, face, or iris (Android). Supported alternative methods are passcode (iOS) and pattern, pin, or password (Android). ### Before you enable app lock Make sure that the Connected Clients setting for Tableau Server or Tableau Cloud is enabled. For more information, see [Temporarily keep users signed in](#temporary). If you don't have this setting enabled, users will be required to sign in every time they connect to Tableau Server or Tableau Cloud, eliminating the need for an app lock. For Tableau Server, you can control precisely how long users remain signed in by adjusting the expiration values for refresh tokens. For more information, see [Change how long users remain signed in to Tableau Server](#change). An app lock is intended for use with long-lived tokens, such as those that use the default expiration values. **Note:** If your Tableau Server installation uses a reverse proxy server, be aware that your users may need to sign in upon unlocking the app. This is because their reverse proxy tokens expired, but their refresh tokens are still active. ### Enable the app lock setting #### For Tableau Cloud 1. Sign in to Tableau Cloud as an administrator. 2. Select Settings, and then select the Authentication tab. 3. Under App Lock for Tableau Mobile, check the Enable app lock setting. #### For Tableau Server versions 2019.4 and later 1. Sign in to Tableau Server as an administrator. 2. Navigate to the site for which you want to enable app lock. 3. Select Settings. 4. Under Tableau Mobile, check the Enable app lock setting. #### For Tableau Server versions 2019.3 and earlier The setting to enable app lock is not available for Tableau Server versions 2019.3 and earlier; however, you can still enable app lock with an AppConfig parameter for MDM and MAM systems. See RequireAppLock in [AppConfig keys](https://help.tableau.com/current/mobile/mobile-admin/en-us/admin_mobile_ace.htm#parameters). #### User-enabled app lock Users can also individually enable app lock for their devices via a setting within the app. However, users can't disable app lock via this setting if it is enabled by their administrator. ![Tableau Mobile settings screen](/tableau/current/en-us/mobile/mobile-admin/en-us/Img/mobile_app_lock_setting.png) ### When app lock is enabled After you enable app lock, users who are signed in will be required to unlock the app when they open it. If users haven't set up a method to unlock their devices, they will be prompted to do so in order to unlock the app. If users fail to unlock the app, they will have the option to either try again or log out of Tableau. If users fail to unlock the app after five attempts using a biometric method, or if their devices are not configured for biometrics, they will be prompted to unlock using an alternative method such as a passcode. Repeated failures to unlock the app using a passcode will result in the user being locked out of the device as a whole, not just the app. The number of attempts before this occurs depends on the device. Further attempts to unlock the device are delayed by increasing amounts of time. ## Single sign-on for Tableau Mobile For single sign-on (SSO) authentication, Tableau Mobile supports SAML and OpenID Connect for all mobile platforms and Kerberos for iOS devices. ### SAML If Tableau Cloud or Tableau Server is configured to use SAML, users are automatically redirected to the identity provider (IdP) for sign-in within Tableau Mobile. However, SAML doesn't relay credentials to other mobile apps using SSO. SAML doesn't require special configuration for mobile devices, except in the case of devices using Microsoft Intune. To enable SAML for Microsoft Intune, see [Override the default browser used for authentication](#override-browser). ### OpenID Connect If Tableau Server is configured to use OpenID Connect for authentication, or if Tableau Cloud is configured to use Google (via OpenID Connect), single sign on takes place with the external identity provider (IdP) using the mobile device's browser. To enable SSO with the browser, see [Authentication with the device browser](#device-browser). To enable OpenID Connect specifically for Microsoft Intune, see [Override the default browser used for authentication](#override-browser). ### Kerberos (iOS and Tableau Server only) To use Kerberos authentication, devices must be specially configured for your organization. Kerberos configuration is beyond the scope of this document and Tableau Support, but here are some third-party resources to help get you started. - [Kerberos Single Sign-on for iOS](https://samuelyates.wordpress.com/2013/10/11/kerberos-single-sign-on-in-ios-7/) on the Sam's Tech Notes blog - [Mobile Single Sign On from iOS to SAP NetWeaver](https://blogs.sap.com/2013/09/18/mobile-single-sign-on-from-ios-7-to-sap-netweaver/) on the SAP Community Network - The [Configuration Profile Key Reference](https://developer.apple.com/library/ios/featuredarticles/iPhoneConfigurationProfileRef/Introduction/Introduction.html) in the iOS Developer Library When you set up a configuration profile, you'll need the URLs used to access your Tableau server. For the URLPrefixMatches key, if you decide to list the URL strings explicitly, include URLs with all protocol options and the appropriate port numbers. - If your servers use SSL, your URLs should use the https protocol and the server's fully qualified domain name. One of the URLs also should specify port 443. For example, enter `https://fully.qualifed.domain.name:443/` and `https://servername.fully.qualified.domain.name/` - If your users access your Tableau server by specifying only the local server name, you should also include those variations. For example, enter `http://servername/` and `http://servername:80/` **Note:** Signing out doesn't clear Kerberos tickets on a device. If stored Kerberos tickets are still valid, anyone using a device can access the server and site a user last signed in to, without providing credentials. ## Make it easy for users to switch sites on Tableau Cloud The site switcher on Tableau Mobile allows users to switch between the different Tableau sites that they have access to, without needing to sign out of the current site and in to the target site. For users to be able to switch between sites on Tableau Cloud without needing to re-enter their credentials, certain conditions must be met. - The user's Tableau session and the identity provider session are still active on the target site. - The Sign in with Device Browser setting is enabled. For more information, see [Authentication with the device browser](#device-browser). When users select a site to switch to, the app redirects to the device's browser to verify the session with the identity provider and then switches to the target site. If the session on the target site has expired, or if the Sign in with Device Browser setting isn't enabled, users must re-enter their credentials. You can increase the likelihood that a user's session is still active by setting a longer session time and by enabling the Connected Clients setting. For more information about connected clients, see [Access Sites from Connected Clients](https://help.tableau.com/current/online/en-us/to_connected_clients.htm) **Note:** Tableau Server users don't need to re-enter their credentials to switch between sites that belong to the same server instance. [Skip to main content](#main-content) # Control Deep Linking for Tableau Mobile Links to views and metrics open in Tableau Mobile, if deep linking is enabled. When users select links to these types of content, the links either open directly in the app or open in a web browser and automatically redirect to the app. Note that while links to views (the individual dashboards or sheets within a workbook) open in Tableau Mobile, links to entire workbooks or projects don't open in the app. For an overview of content types in Tableau, see [Tour Your Tableau Site](https://help.tableau.com/current/pro/desktop/en-us/navigating.htm). ## Disable deep linking to Tableau Mobile By default, deep linking is enabled. If you disable deep linking, links will open in a web browser instead of Tableau Mobile. To disable deep linking, enter the following in the command-line interface for Tableau Services Manager: `tsm configuration set -k mobile.deep_linking.on_prem.enabled -v false` For more information see, [TSM configuration set options](https://help.tableau.com/current/server/en-us/cli_configuration-set_tsm.htm#mobile_link). ## Differences in deep linking behavior When a user attempts to open a link to a view or metric in Tableau Mobile, the behavior depends on: - The version of Tableau linked to - The type of mobile device used - The source of the link: - Copied from the browser's address bar or - Generated by subscriptions, alerts, or the share dialog. For more information about these features, see [Create a Subscription to a View or Workbook](https://help.tableau.com/current/pro/desktop/en-us/subscribe_user.htm), [Send Data-Driven Alerts](https://help.tableau.com/current/pro/desktop/en-us/data_alerts.htm), or [Share Web Content](https://help.tableau.com/current/pro/desktop/en-us/shareworkbooks.htm). **Note:** Links to content other than views and metrics open in the browser, not Tableau Mobile.

Select the blue numbers to the right of the channel names to see more items of each type. ![Home screen](/tableau/current/en-us/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/Img/mobile_home.png) ### Access favorites From the Home screen, select the number next to Favorites to access all of your favorite content. Use the view mode icon in the upper-right corner of the screen to toggle between grid and list view. ![View mode toggle](/tableau/current/en-us/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/Img/mobile_favorites_mode.png) Views and workbooks in your favorites are available as offline previews. Additionally, the views and workbooks in collections that you've added to your favorites are available offline. For more information, see [Interact with offline workbooks and views](https://help.tableau.com/current/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/tableau_mobile_interact.htm#previews). #### Organize your favorites Reorder your favorites to put the most important content first. Press and hold on an item to select it, then drag it to a new position. You can move items in both grid and list view. The custom order you create persists between Tableau Mobile and Tableau Server or Tableau Cloud. ![A favorites card being dragged to a new position](/tableau/current/en-us/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/Img/mobile_reorder_favorites.gif) ### Check your collections Collections that you've created or that others have given you access to appear on your Home screen. With Tableau Mobile, you can view items in a collection, but to manage a collection or add items to it, use Tableau Cloud or Tableau Server with a web browser instead. For more information about collections, see [Organize Items in a Collection](https://help.tableau.com/current/pro/desktop/en-us/collections.htm). ### Find shared content When another user shares a project, workbook, or view with you using the Share dialog on Tableau Server or Tableau Cloud, that content appears in the Shared with Me channel on your Home screen. Content shared outside of Tableau, by sending a link through email or a messaging app, doesn’t appear in this channel. If multiple versions of a view are shared with you, for example, a custom view and the original view, you can choose between the shared versions after you tap on the view. All other types of content show only a single instance, and the sharer listed is the most recent person to share the item. ## Check notifications You’ll receive a notification when someone shares content with you, mentions you in a comment, or when an important status update occurs for content you own. A dot on the notifications icon indicates that you have a new notification. ![Notifications bell with a red dot on it](/tableau/current/en-us/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/Img/mobile_icons_notifications.png) On the Notifications screen, tap on a collapsed notification to view the complete message. If the content that is linked to the notification is available on Tableau Mobile, the notification will include an Open button. Some types of notifications are linked to content that isn't available on Tableau Mobile, such as flows or data sources. To manage these items, sign in to Tableau Server or Tableau Cloud using a web browser and view your notifications there. ## Explore content in projects Select **Explore** to browse your site's Tableau content. Start with the list of top-level projects, then choose one to access its sub-projects, workbooks, and views. > [!TIP] > > To see all projects, workbooks, and views, select the blue numbers on the right side of the screen. ![A list of projects, workbooks, and views within the Education folder.](/tableau/current/en-us/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/Img/tableau_mobile_projects.png) When you open a workbook, you can choose from thumbnails for all of its views. If a workbook contains only a single view, that view immediately opens. (You can override this default in the [app settings](#Change).) ![Campus Diversity Workbook with two dashboards](/tableau/current/en-us/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/Img/tableau_mobile_workbook.png) When you're looking at an individual view within a workbook, select the views icon to quickly open another view. Check out what is trending or see personalized recommendations based on your viewing habits. If a recommendation isn't relevant, you can hide it. For more about recommendations, see [Discover Recommended Views on Your Tableau Site](https://help.tableau.com/current/pro/desktop/en-us/recommendations.htm). ![Recommendation description](/tableau/current/en-us/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/Img/mobile_recommendation.png) ## Search content Search shows results sorted by projects, workbooks, and views, just like the project-navigation screen. ![Search bar](/tableau/current/en-us/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/Img/tableau_mobile_search.png) ## Set your start page You can set your start page to show Home, Explore, or Pulse, or you can set Tableau Mobile to use the default start page, if one has been set for your Tableau site. Pulse is available as an option only if you are connected to a Tableau Cloud site. 1. Select the menu icon in the upper-left corner of the screen. 2. Select Settings. ![Opening Tableau Mobile settings](/tableau/current/en-us/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/Img/tableau_mobile_settings.gif) 3. Next to Start Page, select the tab or page that is currently set. 4. Select an option for your start page, then select OK. ### Set the default start page The default start page is the page that has been set on Tableau Cloud or Tableau Server. If you want to see a specific project, collection, workbook, view, or your favorites when you start the app, you can set this by visiting your Tableau site in a web browser. Your Tableau administrator can also set this page for everyone on your site. #### Set your own start page Sign in to Tableau Cloud or Tableau Server using a web browser, then follow the instructions on [Change Your Start Page](https://help.tableau.com/current/pro/desktop/en-us/useracct.htm#change-your-start-page). If you set your own start page, it will take precedence over any page set by your administrator. #### Set a start page as an administrator If you want to set a start page for your users, sign in to Tableau Cloud or Tableau Server using a web browser, then follow the instructions on [Set the Default Start Page for All Users](https://help.tableau.com/current/server/en-us/maintenance_startpg.htm). ### Access your start page When you sign in, you are taken to your start page, if one is set, and the page is available on Tableau Mobile. Start pages on Tableau Mobile can be the Home, Explore, or Pulse tabs or a specific project, collection, workbook, view, or your favorites. If your start page is set to content on Tableau Server or Tableau Cloud that isn’t available on Tableau Mobile (for example, a data source or flow) you won’t see that content when you start Tableau Mobile. For start pages set to the default page on your Tableau site, you can go back to this page at any time by selecting the Start Page card on your Home screen. ![Start page card on Home](/tableau/current/en-us/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/Img/mobile_start_page.png) ## Navigate using voice commands (iOS only) You can use voice commands to explore content and check your notifications and alerts. These commands are currently available for iOS only. To use these commands, first turn on VoiceOver for iOS. For the complete list of voice commands, see [Navigate using voice commands (iOS only)](https://help.tableau.com/current/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/tableau_mobile_explore.htm#voice). **Warning:** Upgrading to iOS 27 might prevent you from being able to sign in to Tableau Server or Tableau Cloud. For more information, see [Tableau Mobile sign-in may fail on iOS 27](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=005460854&type=1). ### Added August 2026 #### Understand metric charts with screen reader summaries With the AI Summaries for Screen Readers setting, Tableau Mobile uses the AI capabilities on your device to generate a description of the sparkline charts for Tableau Pulse metrics. The description includes key details about the chart’s visual elements so that you can understand your data while using VoiceOver on iOS or TalkBack on Android. None of your data is sent to the AI provider. These descriptions are encrypted and stored securely on your device. To learn how to adjust the settings for Tableau Mobile, see [Change settings or switch sites](#Change). #### Prepare for the Tableau Mobile for Workspace ONE app retirement The Tableau Mobile for Workspace ONE app for mobile application management systems is being retired. If you are using the Tableau Mobile for Workspace ONE app, contact your administrator for help transitioning to a different app. For more information about the app retirement, see [Deploy the app with mobile application management](https://help.tableau.com/current/mobile/mobile-admin/en-us/admin_mobile_intro.htm#deploy-the-app-with-mobile-application-management). ### Added July 2026 #### See your metrics in dark mode The Tableau Pulse tab now uses the theme that you have set for Tableau Mobile. You can change your theme in the Tableau Mobile settings. 1. Select the menu icon (☰) in the upper-left corner of the screen. 2. Select Settings. 3. Under Theme, select Dark mode. ![Pulse tab with metrics in dark mode](/tableau/current/en-us/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/Img/pulse_dark_mode_mobile.png) #### Investigate data details You can now access data details on Tableau Mobile. Data details contain information about the data source and fields used by a view, as well as usage information for that view. To access data details, on a view, select the Actions (⋯) menu, then select View Data Details. Data details are part of Tableau Catalog. To view data details, your Tableau license must include Data Management, and your admin must turn on Tableau Catalog for your site. For more information, see [About Tableau Catalog](https://help.tableau.com/current/online/en-us/dm_catalog_overview.htm). ![Data details menu option on a dashboard](/tableau/current/en-us/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/Img/mobile_data_details1.png) ![Data details showing views of the sheet ](/tableau/current/en-us/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/Img/mobile_data_details2.png) #### Sync your metrics when your device is locked (iOS only) Turn on the new Tableau Mobile setting for System Access to allow the Pulse metric widget to sync with your data even when your device is locked. If you don’t turn on this setting, the widget can sync only when your device is unlocked. For more information about the widget, see [Configure the Tableau widget to show metrics on your home screen](https://help.tableau.com/current/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/tableau_mobile_interact.htm#widget). Administrators can enforce this setting with the `DisableSystemAccessWhenLocked` AppConfig setting. For more information, see [Customize Tableau Mobile with AppConfig](https://help.tableau.com/current/mobile/mobile-admin/en-us/admin_mobile_ace.htm). This setting is for iOS devices. Android devices can sync with your data when locked without any additional configuration. 1. Select the menu icon (☰) in the upper-left corner of the screen. 2. Select Widget Options. 3. Select the settings icon in the upper-right corner of the screen. 4. Turn on the System Access toggle. ![System access setting on the widget settings screen](/tableau/current/en-us/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/Img/mobile_system_access.png) ### Added May 2026 #### Swipe between sheets in a workbook On a workbook that has multiple sheets, you can now use three fingers to swipe between the sheets. If you want to switch to a specific sheet, you can still use the views icon in the header to select that sheet. ![Swiping between sheets in the Superstore workbook](/tableau/current/en-us/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/Img/mobile_switch_sheets.gif) ### Added April 2026 #### Monitor Pulse metrics on your home screen To keep a closer eye on your favorite Pulse metrics, add the Tableau widget to your home screen. For the widget to show Pulse metrics, you’ll need to add metrics as favorites and adjust app settings so that the widget can access your data. To learn how to configure settings and select metrics for the widget, see [Configure the Tableau widget to show metrics on your home screen](https://help.tableau.com/current/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/tableau_mobile_interact.htm#widget). ![Widget showing metrics for talk time and wait](/tableau/current/en-us/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/Img/pulse_mobile_widget.png) ### Added January 2026 #### Turn off alerts for a metric You receive an alert when a metric that you're following crosses into an unfavorable threshold range or has a new unfavorable trend. If you don't want to receive alerts for a specific metric, turn off alerts for that metric. To turn off alerts, select the actions (⋯) menu for that metric, then select Turn Off Alerts. Or swipe left on an alert, then select Turn Off. ![Swipe left to turn off alert](/tableau/current/en-us/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/Img/pulse_mobile_turn_off_alert.png) To see a list of the metrics that you’ve turned off alerts for, select the alerts icon in the upper-right corner of the Pulse home screen, then select the Alerts Off tab. If you decide that you want to receive alerts again, swipe left on a metric, then select Turn On. ### Added in November 2025 #### Receive push notifications for important changes to your metrics Tableau Mobile now sends you alerts as push notifications when it detects unfavorable changes to the metrics that you follow. These alerts include when a metric crosses into an unfavorable threshold range and when a new unfavorable trend is detected. Tap on an alert to learn more about these changes to your data. ![Mobile notification for unfavorable trend](/tableau/current/en-us/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/Img/pulse_mobile_push_notification.png) To receive push notifications, you must turn on notifications for the Tableau app on your device. You receive these notifications even if the Tableau Mobile app is closed, as long as you have notifications turned on. If you have an Android device, when you install the Tableau app, these notifications are turned off by default. ##### Turn on notifications on Android 1. On your Android device, navigate to Settings > Notifications > App notifications. 2. From the menu, select All apps. 3. Select Tableau. 4. Under notification categories, select Show unused categories. 5. Select Other. 6. Make sure that the Tableau Pulse toggle is on. ##### Turn on notifications on iOS 1. On your iOS device, navigate to Settings > Notifications. 2. Select Tableau. 3. Make sure that the Allow Notifications toggle is on. ### Added in August 2025 #### Explore Tableau Pulse recommendations Check the Recommendations for You section on the Pulse tab to explore trending metrics. Selecting the recommendations header takes you to a screen with more recommendations. On sites with a Tableau+ license edition, you also see recommended questions to ask with Enhanced Q&A. For information about the visibility of these recommendations, see [Hide and show Tableau Pulse recommendations](https://help.tableau.com/current/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/tableau_mobile_interact.htm#pulse-recommendations). ![Tableau Pulse metric recommendations](/tableau/current/en-us/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/Img/pulse_mobile_recommendations.png) #### Easily access visualizations connected to Snowflake For visualizations that prompt you to connect to a Snowflake data source, Tableau Mobile now handles the authentication in the app, so you don’t need to open a browser to authenticate. For information about setting up a Snowflake connection, see [Configure OAuth for Snowflake Connections](https://help.tableau.com/current/pro/desktop/en-us/snowflake_oauth.htm). ### Added in May 2025 #### Add and remove metric followers You can now manage followers for metrics on the Pulse tab in Tableau Mobile. Previously, you could follow or unfollow metrics yourself, but you couldn’t add others as followers. When you change the filters on an existing Tableau Pulse metric, you create a new metric with that set of filters if one doesn’t already exist. The followers from the previous metric don’t carry over. Add followers so that others can track the new metric. For more information, see [Manage followers](https://help.tableau.com/current/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/tableau_mobile_interact.htm#followers). ### Added in April 2025 #### Mute metrics from your insight summary Tableau Pulse displays an insight summary at the top of the tab, highlighting key insights from the metrics that you follow. If you don’t want Tableau Pulse to include information about specific metrics in this summary, you can mute those metrics. The muted metrics still appear in your followed metrics section and in digests, and you can unmute them at any time. To mute a metric, on the Tableau Pulse tab, tap the actions (...) menu for the metric, then select Mute from Insight Summary. The metric will be muted the next time the insight summary refreshes. This change applies to the insight summaries in your email and Slack digests as well as the summaries shown on Tableau Mobile and Tableau Cloud. For more information, see [Customize your home page and digests.](https://help.tableau.com/current/online/en-us/pulse_explore_metrics.htm#Grouping) ![Mute metric option](/tableau/current/en-us/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/Img/pulse_mobile_muting.png) #### Adjust filters for metrics You can now filter by dimension on Tableau Pulse metrics. Previously, you could view these filters on Tableau Mobile, but you couldn’t adjust them. For more information, see [Adjust filters for metrics](https://help.tableau.com/current/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/tableau_mobile_interact.htm#time-filter). ![Adjusting metric filters](/tableau/current/en-us/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/Img/pulse_mobile_filters.png) ### Added in March 2025 #### Get alerts for new unfavorable trends If Tableau Pulse detects a new unfavorable trend in the data for a metric that you follow, you receive a notification on your mobile device. For more information, see [Get Alerts About Tableau Pulse Insights](https://help.tableau.com/current/online/en-us/pulse_alerts.htm). ![Tableau Pulse new unfavorable trend notification](/tableau/current/en-us/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/Img/pulse_mobile_alert.png) #### Discover more insights with enhanced Q&A (Tableau+, English language only) Enhanced Q&A (Discover) makes it easier to discover insights across groups of business-critical metrics, and then dig deeper on the Discover page. Because it is powered by AI in Tableau, you can ask questions in your own words to get answers about your data. When metrics in Tableau Pulse are grouped by data source, definition, or time range, Discover uses a statistical algorithm to look across grouped metrics and surface insights that are relevant, interesting, and worth investigating. Enhanced Q&A is available as a Tableau+ premium feature. To access Enhanced Q&A on Tableau Mobile, select Explore More on a group of metrics. For more information, see [Ask Questions and Discover Insights in Tableau Pulse](https://help.tableau.com/current/online/en-us/pulse_ask_discover_qa.htm). ![Tableau Pulse enhanced Q and A](/tableau/current/en-us/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/Img/pulse_mobile_discover.png) ### Added in December 2024 #### See more Pulse metrics on your phone A revamped layout for the Pulse tab displays more metrics on the screen so you can quickly get an overview of your data. This compact layout is available for phones. ![Tableau Mobile Pulse tab showing 5 metrics](/tableau/current/en-us/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/Img/pulse_mobile_home_revamp_multi_metrics.png) ### Added in October 2024 #### Switch between Tableau Cloud sites The site switcher is now available for users who are members of multiple Tableau Cloud sites. To learn how to switch sites, see [Change settings or switch sites](#Change). To learn how to facilitate switching between the sites you administer, see [Make it easy for users to switch sites on Tableau Cloud](https://help.tableau.com/current/mobile/mobile-admin/en-us/admin_mobile_sso.htm#switch). ### Added in September 2024 #### Customize the Pulse tab (Tableau+ only) You can now customize the Pulse tab by sorting and grouping metrics to easily find those that are most important to you. For more information, see [Customize the Pulse tab](https://help.tableau.com/current/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/tableau_mobile_interact.htm#sort). ### Added in July 2024 #### Set Pulse as your start page You can now set the Pulse, Explore, or Home tab to be your start page in Tableau Mobile. For more information, see [Set your start page](https://help.tableau.com/current/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/tableau_mobile_explore.htm#start). #### Change the time filter on metrics When viewing a metric that you follow, you can now adjust the time filter to see data from different periods. For more information, see [Adjust filters for metrics](https://help.tableau.com/current/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/tableau_mobile_interact.htm#time-filter). ### Added in June 2024 #### Tableau Pulse reminder Ever forget to check your data? Tableau Mobile now sends a reminder when you haven't recently opened Tableau Pulse, so you never miss an insight. You can turn this reminder on or off by adjusting your device's notification settings for Tableau Mobile. Added in March 2024 #### Track you data and discover insights with Tableau Pulse Tableau Pulse is now available for all Tableau Cloud sites. On Tableau Mobile, you'll see the Tableau Pulse metrics that you follow, giving you access to personalized insights when you're on the go. For more information, see [Stay up to date with your Tableau Pulse metrics](https://help.tableau.com/current/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/tableau_mobile_interact.htm#pulse). Note that to access Tableau Pulse on Tableau Mobile, your admin needs to turn on Tableau Pulse for your site. Added in January 2024 #### Try the Tableau Pulse beta Tableau Pulse is now available in beta for Tableau Mobile. With Tableau Pulse, you can track the metrics you follow, discover insights, and get answers to questions about your data. For more information, see [Stay up to date with your Tableau Pulse metrics](https://help.tableau.com/current/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/tableau_mobile_interact.htm#pulse). Added in March 2023 #### Change your theme to dark mode We've added a new dark mode theme to Tableau Mobile. To turn on dark mode, select Settings > Theme. Pick from the system default, which will respect your preference for dark mode if set at the system level, light mode, and dark mode. ![Theme settings](/tableau/current/en-us/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/Img/mobile_dark_mode.png) #### Interact with underlying data When you view the underlying data for a visualization in Tableau Mobile, you now get an interactive table that you can filter by field. To view the underlying data, from the actions (…) menu on a view, select Download > Data. The options for View Data on Tableau Mobile are the same as those for Tableau Cloud or Tableau Server but optimized for a mobile screen. You must be connected to Tableau Cloud or Tableau Server version 2023.1 or later to see the new View Data experience. For information about the data shown by View Data and how to customize it, see [View Underlying Data](https://help.tableau.com/current/pro/desktop/en-us/inspectdata_viewdata.htm). Added in October 2022 #### A faster way to open links Now, when you open a link to a view or metric, you will automatically get the option to sign in to the relevant site before being taken to the content. Previously, if you weren't signed in, you would see an error and needed to manually sign in to the site. For more information, see [Open external links to views and metrics](https://help.tableau.com/current/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/tableau_mobile_interact.htm#deep-links). ## About Tableau Mobile Tableau Mobile is the companion app for Tableau Cloud and Tableau Server, giving you access to your Tableau site when you're on the go. Available for Android and iOS, Tableau Mobile lets you interact with the content on your site and discover data insights, even if you’re offline. ![Mobile home screen](/tableau/current/en-us/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/Img/mobile_home.png) Tableau Mobile is for viewing visualizations but not for creating them. To create a visualization, use Tableau Cloud or Tableau Server in a web browser. ### Get Tableau Mobile [![Get it on Google Play](/tableau/current/en-us/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/Img/mobile_google_play.png)](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.Tableau.TableauApp) [![Download on the App Store](/tableau/current/en-us/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/Img/mobile_app_store.png)](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/tableau-mobile/id434633927) Check the [Tech Specs for Tableau Mobile](https://www.tableau.com/products/techspecs#mobile) to see operating system and Tableau version requirements. ## Sign in To use Tableau Mobile, you must sign in to an account on either Tableau Server or Tableau Cloud. If you don't have an account, you can [sign up for a trial of Tableau Cloud](https://www.tableau.com/products/cloud-bi). Before you sign in, make sure you're connected to your corporate VPN, if necessary. If you experience repeated trouble signing in, contact your Tableau administrator. The way you authenticate can vary based on your Tableau environment. ### Tableau Server versus Tableau Cloud Using a web browser, visit your Tableau site. To determine whether you are using Tableau Server or Tableau Cloud, compare the URL in the address bar to the following examples. - A site on Tableau Server: `https://my-server/#/site/my-site/home` - A site on Tableau Cloud: `https://10az.online.tableau.com/#/site/my-site/home` You can’t sign in to Tableau Public (https://public.tableau.com) with the Tableau Mobile app. However, you can visit the [Tableau Public website](https://public.tableau.com) using a mobile browser. ### Sign in to Tableau Server 1. In Tableau Mobile, select Get Started, if you don't see the Sign In screen. 2. In the Server URL field, enter the address of your Tableau Server. Begin with `https://` or `http://` and end before the `/#` symbol. For example, `https://my-server`. **Note:** If you omit `https://` or `http://` from your URL, Tableau Mobile will attempt only secure (HTTPS) connections. HTTP isn't used when you omit `http://`, because it lacks server verification and the ability to keep the communications confidential. If your server uses HTTP, you must enter `http://` at the beginning of your URL to connect to that server. You may also see a list of custom servers added by your administrator. Select one of these servers to sign in. 3. Select Connect to Server. You are taken to your server’s sign in screen. If you are unable to sign in, contact your Tableau administrator for assistance. ### Sign in to Tableau Cloud 1. In Tableau Mobile, select Get Started, if you don't see the Sign In screen. 2. Select Connect to Tableau Cloud. 3. You are taken to the Tableau Cloud sign in screen. If you are unable to sign in, contact your Tableau administrator for assistance. ## Change settings or switch sites 1. Select the menu icon in the upper-left corner of the screen. 2. Select Settings to change app defaults. ![Opening Tableau Mobile settings](/tableau/current/en-us/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/Img/tableau_mobile_settings.gif) 3. Select Switch site, then select the site to switch to. If the site you want to switch to isn't listed, select Sign Out, then sign in to the new site. ![Site Switch menu option](/tableau/current/en-us/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/Img/tableau_mobile_site_switch.png) [Skip to main content](#main-content) # Interact with Data on Tableau Mobile Using Tableau Mobile, you can interact with views and metrics that are published on Tableau Server and Tableau Cloud. ## Stay up to date with your Tableau Pulse metrics **Note:** Tableau Pulse is available exclusively for Tableau Cloud. If you don’t see Tableau Pulse, ask your administrator to turn it on for your site. For more information about Tableau Pulse, see [About Tableau Pulse](https://help.tableau.com/current/online/en-us/pulse_intro.htm). Access the Tableau Pulse metrics that you follow on Tableau Mobile and see insights about your data whenever you need them. Tableau Pulse is available for Tableau Cloud and combines a metrics layer, where members of your organization define key numbers to track, with an insights platform that informs you about trends, outliers, and other changes to those metrics. For information about using Tableau Pulse on Tableau Cloud, see [Explore Metrics with Tableau Pulse](https://help.tableau.com/current/online/en-us/pulse_explore_metrics.htm) and [Create Metrics with Tableau Pulse](https://help.tableau.com/current/online/en-us/pulse_create_metrics.htm). To open Tableau Pulse, from the navigation bar, select Pulse. When you open Tableau Pulse, you see a summary of the top insights for your metrics, along with a feed of all the metrics that you follow. The insights and metrics presented on this screen are stored offline, so you can see the most recent values for your metrics even if you don’t have a connection. If you don't see an offline preview, your administrator might have turned off these previews. ![Tableau Pulse home screen](/tableau/current/en-us/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/Img/pulse_mobile_home_revamp_insight_summary.png) You won’t see metrics if you don’t follow any. To find metrics to follow, sign in to Tableau Cloud with a web browser, and visit Tableau Pulse to browse all the metrics on your site. For more information, see [Get started with Tableau Pulse](https://help.tableau.com/current/online/en-us/pulse_explore_metrics.htm#get-started-with-tableau-pulse). If you have a Creator, Site Administrator Explorer, or Explorer (can publish) site role, you can also create metric definitions on Tableau Cloud. For more information, see [Create a metric definition](https://help.tableau.com/current/online/en-us/pulse_create_metrics.htm#create-a-metric-definition). ### Explore insights Tap a metric to open its insights exploration screen. Any metrics that you select in a Slack or email digest automatically open to the insights exploration screen in Tableau Mobile as well. On the insights exploration screen, you can switch between the overview tab, which shows the value for the metric during the current period, and the breakdown tab, which shows how different dimensions are contributing to the value. ![Metric insights exploration screen](/tableau/current/en-us/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/Img/pulse_mobile_metric.png) Below the overview and breakdown section, select from suggested questions to learn more about the factors driving changes in your data. If there are any unusual changes to your data, Tableau Pulse also presents them here. ![Insight questions and answers](/tableau/current/en-us/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/Img/pulse_mobile_qa.png) ### Adjust filters for metrics 1. Open the metric that you want to filter. 2. Select the edit icon next to the current filters. 3. Adjust the time period and select fields to filter for the dimensions listed. ![Metric filter options](/tableau/current/en-us/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/Img/pulse_mobile_filters.png) 4. Select Apply Filters. Each metric in Tableau Pulse represents a unique combination of the time range and filters. When you filter a metric, Tableau Pulse creates a new metric with those filters applied if one doesn’t already exist. Followers from the previous metric don’t carry over to the new metric. To track the new metric in your email and Slack digests and on your Tableau Pulse tab, follow it. ### Manage followers The followers of a metric see that metric on their Tableau Pulse home and in Slack and email digests. #### Add followers 1. On the metric that you want to manage, select the Actions (...) menu. 2. Select Manage Followers. 3. Enter the user or group names that you want to add, then select Add. If you add users to a metric as part of a group, they won’t be able to remove themselves individually. To give users control over the metrics they follow, add them as individuals. #### Remove followers 1. On the metric that you want to manage, select the Actions (...) menu. 2. Select Manage Followers. 3. Swipe left on the name that you want to remove, then select Remove. ### Share metrics To share a link to a metric, tap the share icon at the top of the screen. This button opens the sharing options for your mobile device. Tableau Pulse doesn’t currently support the share with people via Tableau option described under [Share content](#share). ![Share metric option](/tableau/current/en-us/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/Img/pulse_mobile_share.png) ### Customize the Pulse tab You can customize the Tableau Mobile Pulse tab by sorting and grouping metrics. Sort metrics based on how recently you followed the metric, or group metrics that share a metric definition or a data source. 1. From the Pulse tab, select the sort icon. ![Sort arrow icon](/tableau/current/en-us/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/Img/pulse_mobile_sort.png) 2. Select how you want your metrics to be sorted, for example, grouped by metric definition and ordered ascending. 3. Select Apply to use this sort order just on Tableau Mobile, or select Set Default Order to also apply this sort order to your Tableau Pulse web home page, Slack digest, and email digest. ### Check your alerts You receive an alert when a metric that you're following crosses into an unfavorable threshold range or has a new unfavorable trend. For more information about alerts, see [Get Tableau Pulse Alerts](https://help.tableau.com/current/online/en-us/pulse_alerts.htm). 1. On the Pulse tab, select the alerts icon in the upper-right corner. ![Pulse alerts icon](/tableau/current/en-us/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/Img/pulse_mobile_alert_icon.png) 2. The All Alerts tab shows alerts from the past 24 hours. To see metrics that you've turned off alerts for, select the Alerts Off tab. ### Manage alerts for a metric You can control whether you receive alerts for individual metrics. #### Turn alerts off 1. On the All Alerts tab, swipe left on a metric. 2. Select Turn Off. This option turns off all alerts for that metric. #### Turn alerts on 1. On the Alerts Off tab, swipe left on a metric. 2. Select Turn On. ### Configure the Tableau widget to show metrics on your home screen The Tableau widget shows up to two of your favorite Pulse metrics. To learn about adding widgets on your device, see [Add, edit, and remove widgets on iPhone](https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/add-edit-and-remove-widgets-iphb8f1bf206/26/ios/26) in the iPhone User Guide and [Add apps, shortcuts & widgets to your Home screens](https://support.google.com/android/answer/9450271) in the Android Help. 1. From the Tableau Mobile navigation panel, select Widget Options. ![Mobile navigation panel with Widget Options highlighted](/tableau/current/en-us/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/Img/pulse_mobile_options1.png) 2. The metrics under Display Order appear on the widget. The metrics below the widget list are the rest of your favorite metrics. Select the ≡ icon to move a metric to the top or bottom. If you don’t see any metrics on this screen, add metrics that you follow to your favorites by selecting the star icon on a metric. ![Widget options showing the metrics for Talk Time and Wait in the display section](/tableau/current/en-us/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/Img/pulse_mobile_options2.png) 3. In the upper right corner of the Widget Options, select the settings icon. 4. Toggle off App Lock, and toggle on Enable Offline Previews. These settings must be configured in this way for the Tableau widget to sync with your data. If these settings are admin enabled or disabled, contact your Tableau admin for help. ![Widget-specific settings screen for App Lock and Enable Offline Previews](/tableau/current/en-us/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/Img/pulse_mobile_options3.png) 5. If you have an iOS device, you'll see an additional **System Access** setting. Turn this setting on to allow the Pulse widget to sync with your data while your device is locked. ### Hide and show Tableau Pulse recommendations The recommendations section on the Pulse tab shows trending metrics. You can choose to hide or show this section. 1. To hide the recommendations section, on the Pulse tab, select the X on the Recommendations for You card. 2. To bring back the recommendations section, open the Tableau Mobile settings, then select Show Pulse Recommendations. ## Interact with offline workbooks and views Tableau Mobile stores interactive previews of workbooks and views that you can access when you’re offline. That way, if you’re traveling and have no connection, you can still see your data. These previews display the last time they synced, so you know how fresh they are. Previews are generated for workbooks and views set as your start page, workbooks and views in your favorites, and workbooks and views that are in collections that you've added to your favorites. Previews let you scroll, pan, and zoom a viz, see data tooltips, and highlight marks. However, the following features aren't available: filtering, combined tooltips for multiple selected marks, Viz-in-Tooltip, and advanced analytics like trend and reference lines. When you’re online, these previews display while the latest view loads. After it has finished loading, you’ll automatically transition from the preview to the latest view. If you interact with the preview, you won’t transition, so you don’t lose any analysis that you’ve done. When you're ready to see the latest view, select the arrow in the footer to transition. ![A viz with a message at the bottom showing that the latest view is available and when it last synced.](/tableau/current/en-us/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/Img/mobile_latest_view.png) If the view can’t load, an error message displays with the option to see error details. Make sure you have a connection and are on your corporate VPN, if necessary, to load the latest view. You can turn interactive previews on or off in the [app settings](https://help.tableau.com/current/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/tableau_mobile_get_started.htm#Change). Be aware that Tableau Server administrators sometimes disable interactive previews for entire organizations. Particularly complex views might render as images even if interactive previews are supported. Your administrator can change the complexity threshold. If you frequently see static images, ask your Tableau administrator to [adjust client-side rendering settings](https://help.tableau.com/current/mobile/mobile-admin/en-us/admin_mobile_snapshots.htm#optimize-clientside-rendering-with-tableau-server). ## Adjust and compare metrics (retired) **Retirement of the legacy metrics feature** Tableau's legacy metrics feature was retired in Tableau Cloud in February 2024 and in Tableau Server version 2024.2. In October 2023, Tableau retired the ability to embed legacy metrics in Tableau Cloud and in Tableau Server version 2023.3. With Tableau Pulse, we've developed an improved experience to track metrics and ask questions of your data. For more information, see [Create Metrics with Tableau Pulse](https://help.tableau.com/current/online/en-us/pulse_create_metrics.htm) to learn about the new experience and [Create and Troubleshoot Metrics (Retired)](https://help.tableau.com/current/online/en-us/metrics_create.htm) for the retired feature. This section refers to the legacy metrics feature. For information about Tableau Pulse metrics on Tableau Mobile, see [Stay up to date with your Tableau Pulse metrics](#pulse). Metrics help you track data for key numbers, like weekly sales. Optimized for mobile devices, metrics are easy to understand at a glance. For more about metrics, see [Create and Troubleshoot Metrics](https://help.tableau.com/current/pro/desktop/en-us/metrics_create.htm). Metrics have a feature available only on Tableau Mobile that allows you to adjust the date range displayed on the metric's timeline and change the comparison. These adjustments let you focus on the most important data. 1. Open a metric and select the Adjust and Compare button. This button appears only for metrics with a timeline. 2. Under Date Range, select the range you want to display on the timeline. 3. Under Compare Versus, select the date you want to compare the current value to, or select No comparison. This affects the change value shown below the metric value. 4. To display a comparison line on the metric timeline, toggle Show comparison line to on. 5. Select the back button to see your changes applied to the metric. ![Comparison chart between two years of metric data](/tableau/current/en-us/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/Img/mobile_metrics_comparison.png) ### Metrics display data from their owner’s perspective When you look at a metric, the numbers displayed for a measure might be different from the numbers you see on the connected view. This is because some views filter data based on the viewer's credentials. The owner's credentials are used when getting the data for a metric, so you see the data from the owner's perspective. ## Share content When you share content directly with other users via Tableau, they receive a notification with a link to that content, and the content is also added to Shared with Me, so they can easily find it later. Notifications can come by email, the in-app notifications center, and in the Tableau for Slack app if the site is connected to a Slack workspace. To share directly via Tableau: 1. On the content you want to share, select the share icon. 2. Select With People via Tableau. Tableau Pulse metrics don't support the share with people via Tableau option. ![Share options menu](/tableau/current/en-us/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/Img/mobile_share_options.png) 3. Enter the name or username for the person you want to share with, then select the user from the list. This person must have an account on your Tableau site. 4. Select the send arrow. The sharing options listed under Other Options allow you to copy the link to the content or send the link via other third-party apps you have installed, but they don't send a notification in the Tableau or Slack app, and the content won't appear in the recipient's Shared with Me. Sharing in Tableau doesn't grant the recipient permission to view the shared content. Users can request access to content they don't have permission to view, if request access is turned on for your site. Permissions can't be configured in Tableau Mobile; instead, use Tableau Cloud or Tableau Server in a web browser. For more information, see [Permissions](https://help.tableau.com/current/server/en-us/permissions.htm). ## Link from one view to another Links from one Tableau view to another open directly in Tableau Mobile rather than in a browser, so you don't need to switch back to the app. You'll particularly appreciate this if your organization uses groups of dashboard links that help you navigate to other Tableau content. ## Open external links to views and metrics If someone sends you a link to a view or metric, or if you receive a notification email with a link, you can open the link directly in Tableau Mobile. Simply select the link, and it will either open in the app or open in a web browser and automatically redirect to the app. If a prompt appears asking you for permission to open the link in Tableau Mobile, accept the prompt. If you open a link for a version of Tableau Server earlier than 2020.2, or if your Tableau administrator has turned off this feature, the link won't automatically open in the app. Instead, the link will open in a web browser, and you can select the Open in Tableau Mobile banner to open it in the app. ![Open in Tableau Mobile banner](/tableau/current/en-us/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/Img/mobile_open_banner.png) For more information, see [Control deep linking for Tableau Mobile](https://help.tableau.com/current/mobile/mobile-admin/en-us/admin_mobile_links.htm). [Skip to main content](#main-content) # Manage Tableau Mobile Data on Devices ## Understanding cached previews and metadata When mobile users interact with content on Tableau Server or Tableau Cloud, the server processes the underlying business data, and the Tableau Mobile app renders it for display. To display content more quickly, Tableau Mobile caches the following content on a user's device: - Previews of workbooks and views set as start pages, favorite workbooks and views, as well as the workbooks and views that are in favorite collections - Metadata about favorite workbooks and views, such as name and the time of last synchronization with the server This content is encrypted along with other sensitive data by Tableau Mobile. For more information see, [Data encryption on mobile devices](https://help.tableau.com/current/mobile/mobile-admin/en-us/admin_mobile_secure_communication.htm#encryption-at-rest). For further protection, locally stored data is completely deleted whenever: - A user signs out of the server or uninstalls the Tableau Mobile app. - You remove a user account from Tableau Server or Tableau Cloud, and the user tries to sign in with Tableau Mobile. For maximum control, we recommend managing devices with an MDM or MAM system, which let you delete the Tableau Mobile app along with all of its offline content. ## Disable offline previews for a site By default, offline previews are enabled for all sites. Tableau administrators can disable offline previews for specific sites, preventing workbooks and views from being stored on users' devices. When offline previews are disabled, Tableau Mobile displays previews as low-resolution thumbnail images, obscuring details about data. 1. In a web browser, sign in to your server and site as an administrator. 2. From the navigation pane, select Settings. 3. Under the settings for Tableau Mobile, uncheck Enable offline previews. **Note:** Individual users can also disable offline previews in the [app settings](https://help.tableau.com/current/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/tableau_mobile_get_started.htm#Change). ## Optimize client-side rendering with Tableau Server If you're a Tableau Server administrator, you can optimize performance by controlling when views are rendered on the server instead of mobile devices. The choice depends on the complexity of a view, which is determined by the number of marks, rows, columns, and more. If a view is less complex, it's faster for mobile devices to render the view. If a view is more complex, it's faster to send a request to Tableau Server and take advantage of the server's greater computing power. As a server administrator, you can configure when client-side rendering happens on mobile devices by adjusting the complexity threshold. For example, you might lower the threshold for mobile devices if you notice that views display slowly on them. Or, you might increase the threshold to reduce the number of requests to Tableau Server. By default, the complexity threshold for mobile devices is 60. To adjust the complexity threshold, enter the following in the command-line interface for Tableau Services Manager: `tsm configuration set -k vizqlserver.browser.render_threshold_mobile -v [new value]` For example, to change the mobile threshold to 40, you would enter the following command: `tsm configuration set -k vizqlserver.browser.render_threshold_mobile -v 40` For more information, see these topics in Tableau Server Help: - [Configure client-side rendering](https://help.tableau.com/current/server/en-us/browser_rendering.htm) - [TSM configuration set options](https://help.tableau.com/current/server/en-us/cli_configuration-set_tsm.htm) [Skip to main content](#main-content) # Secure Communication and Data for Tableau Mobile Before you deploy Tableau Mobile, make sure that your confidential data will be secure. ## Configure Tableau Mobile app security policies Starting in December 2022, you can adjust Tableau Cloud security policies for Tableau Mobile. These policies help you keep your data secure by checking to see if mobile devices are compromised and by limiting certain interactions with the app. For more information, see [Tableau Mobile App Security Settings](https://help.tableau.com/current/online/en-us/mobile_security_settings-admin.htm) in the Tableau Cloud help. The policies apply to only the standard version of Tableau Mobile, not the MAM versions of the app. If you have deployed an MAM app, use the [appconfig parameters](https://help.tableau.com/current/mobile/mobile-admin/en-us/admin_mobile_ace.htm) specific to Tableau Mobile, in addition to your MAM system's settings, to secure the app. ## Encrypt communication with SSL As a first step, configure Tableau Server to use Secure Sockets Layer and an SSL certificate that your mobile devices trust. For details, see [Configure External SSL](https://help.tableau.com/current/server/en-us/ssl_config.htm) in the Tableau Server help. Certificates issued by major third-party authorities like VeriSign and GlobalSign are secure and trusted by mobile devices. But you can also use a certificate issued by your organization's internal, enterprise certificate authority. To establish trust between either type of certificate and your company's mobile devices, [see these options in the Tableau Knowledge Base](https://kb.tableau.com/articles/howto/connecting-tableau-mobile-to-tableau-server-using-ssl). ## Data encryption on mobile devices After you've encrypted communication between Tableau Mobile and Tableau Server, you don't need to take any further steps to encrypt Tableau data on mobile devices. Starting in version 2022.425.6173, Tableau Mobile automatically encrypts authentication tokens, site and server information, and data and metadata stored for offline content. This means that even if a device is stolen, unauthorized users won't be able to access sensitive data. Tableau Mobile doesn't encrypt data where there is no sensitive information being stored, such as user settings, tracking GUIDs, and analytics and crash data. It also doesn't encrypt data temporarily stored on the device during the process of sharing content, because that data is removed as soon as the sharing process is complete. ## Connect mobile users to Tableau Server behind your firewall The recommended method for securing access to your network depends on your use of mobile application management (MAM) or mobile device management (MDM). - If you use MAM, set up a secure tunnel. - If you use MDM, set up per-app VPN. - If you don't manage devices, use standard VPN or a reverse proxy server. ### Connect using a secure tunnel With the unique iOS apps, Tableau Mobile for BlackBerry and Tableau Mobile for Workspace ONE, users can connect to Tableau Server simply by logging into the mobile app. To configure the necessary secure tunnel, see these resources from your MAM vendor: - [Enable Secure Connect Plus](https://docs.blackberry.com/en/endpoint-management/blackberry-uem/12_16/administration/network-connections/setting-up-enterprise-connectivity/mca1418926684379) in BlackBerry Dynamics help. - [Introduction to VMware Tunnel](https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-Workspace-ONE-UEM/services/Tunnel_Linux/GUID-AWT-TUNNEL-INTRODUCTION.html) in Workspace ONE help. ### Connect using a virtual private network With mobile devices, you can use a VPN either as a stand-alone solution or integrated into an MDM tool like Workspace ONE, MobileIron, XenMobile, or Intune. These MDM tools let you create multiple VPN profiles with unique traffic rules you can apply to different device types and even individual apps. Per-app VPN provides maximum security. The following resources from MDM vendors help you configure their global and per-app VPN options: - Workspace ONE help for [iOS](https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-Workspace-ONE-UEM/2203/iOS_Platform/GUID-iOSProfileOverview.html#virtual-private-network-vpn-profile-for-ios) and [Android](https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-Workspace-ONE-UEM/services/Android\(Legacy\)_Platform/GUID-AWT-ANDROIDPROFILEVPN.html) - [MobileIron help](http://mi.extendedhelp.mobileiron.com/53/all/en/desktop/Configurations.htm) (Also see [Per-app VPN](http://mi.extendedhelp.mobileiron.com/53/all/en/desktop/Per-App_VPN_Configuration.htm).) - [Citrix Endpoint Management help](https://docs.citrix.com/en-us/xenmobile/xenmobile-service/policies/vpn-policy.html) (formerly XenMobile) - [Microsoft Intune help](https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/intune/vpn-settings-configure) ### Connect using a reverse proxy server A reverse proxy server manages all traffic coming from the internet to Tableau Server. In conjunction with SSL, a reverse proxy authenticates traffic while concealing the IP address of the server from clients. For step-by-step setup, see Tableau Server Help for [Windows](https://help.tableau.com/current/server/en-us/proxy.htm#reverse-proxy-server) or [Linux](https://help.tableau.com/current/server-linux/en-us/proxy.htm#reverse-proxy-server), and pay special attention to the details required for mobile clients. ![A diagram illustrating the connection of a mobile device to a data source through a firewall, reverse proxy, and Tableau Server.](/tableau/current/en-us/mobile/mobile-admin/en-us/Img/mobile_security.png) [Skip to main content](#main-content) # Tableau Mobile Overview ## [Get Started](https://help.tableau.com/current/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/tableau_mobile_get_started.htm) ![Get Started](/tableau/current/en-us/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/Img/mobile_toc_start.png) - [Release notes](https://help.tableau.com/current/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/tableau_mobile_get_started.htm#new) - [About Tableau Mobile](https://help.tableau.com/current/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/tableau_mobile_get_started.htm#about) - [Sign in](https://help.tableau.com/current/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/tableau_mobile_get_started.htm#sign-in) - [Change settings or switch sites](https://help.tableau.com/current/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/tableau_mobile_get_started.htm#Change) ## [Explore Content](https://help.tableau.com/current/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/tableau_mobile_explore.htm) ![Explore](/tableau/current/en-us/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/Img/mobile_toc_explore.png) - [Get a content overview](https://help.tableau.com/current/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/tableau_mobile_explore.htm#overview) - [Access favorites](https://help.tableau.com/current/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/tableau_mobile_explore.htm#favorites) - [Explore content in projects](https://help.tableau.com/current/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/tableau_mobile_explore.htm#browse) - [Search content](https://help.tableau.com/current/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/tableau_mobile_explore.htm#search) ## [Interact with Data](https://help.tableau.com/current/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/tableau_mobile_interact.htm) ![Interact](/tableau/current/en-us/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/Img/mobile_toc_interact.png) - [Stay up to date with your Tableau Pulse metrics](https://help.tableau.com/current/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/tableau_mobile_interact.htm#pulse) - [Interact with offline workbooks and views](https://help.tableau.com/current/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/tableau_mobile_interact.htm#previews) - [Link from one view to another](https://help.tableau.com/current/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/tableau_mobile_interact.htm#link-views) - [Open external links to views and metrics](https://help.tableau.com/current/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/tableau_mobile_interact.htm#deep-links) [Skip to main content](#main-content) # The Tableau Mobile Deployment Guide If you're a Tableau administrator, use this guide to deploy the Tableau Mobile app throughout your organization. > [!TIP] > > To see app features for users, check out the [Tableau Mobile Overview](https://help.tableau.com/current/mobile/mobile-user/en-us/tableau_mobile_overview.htm). ## Before you deploy Check the [Tech Specs for Tableau Mobile](https://www.tableau.com/products/techspecs#mobile) to see operating system and Tableau version requirements. Review the [Known Issues for Tableau Mobile](https://www.tableau.com/support/known-issues) to learn about any open issues and recently fixed issues. ## Deploy the app without managing mobile devices If your organization doesn't manage mobile devices or applications, ask your users to download Tableau Mobile directly to their mobile devices from the App Store or Google Play: - [Tableau Mobile for iOS](https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/tableau-mobile/id434633927) on the App Store - [Tableau Mobile for Android](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.Tableau.TableauApp) on Google Play When updates to Tableau Mobile become available, they're handled by each device's update service. If you'd like users to always have the latest version, instruct them to enable automatic app updates in their system settings. **Note:** Tableau Mobile isn't available in the Apple App Store in mainland China. ## Deploy the app with mobile device management Mobile device management (MDM) systems control entire mobile devices, letting administrators remotely monitor, update, and remove any applications and data. To make Tableau Mobile available to users from your internal app catalog, add it to your MDM system using the guidance below: - [VMware Workspace ONE help](https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-Workspace-ONE-UEM/services/Application_Management/GUID-DeployPublicApps.html) - [MobileIron help](http://mi.extendedhelp.mobileiron.com/53/all/en/desktop/App_Catalog.htm#To_add_an_app_from_a_public_store) - [Citrix Endpoint Management help](https://docs.citrix.com/en-us/citrix-endpoint-management/apps.html#add-a-public-app-store-app) (formerly XenMobile) - [Microsoft Intune help](https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/intune/apps/apps-add) **Note:** Though other MDM providers might work with Tableau Mobile, they are not tested or supported by Tableau. ## Deploy the app with mobile application management With mobile application management (MAM) systems, administrators control and update specific applications, leaving personal applications and data untouched. To make Tableau Mobile available to users from your internal app catalog, follow the guidance from your MAM system and add the provider-specific apps listed below. **The Tableau Mobile for Workspace ONE app is being retired.** To give your users uninterrupted access to Tableau Mobile, ask them to download the default Tableau Mobile app, or deploy the Tableau Mobile for Microsoft Intune app. When the Tableau Mobile for Workspace ONE app is retired, it will be removed from the App Store. Users who have already installed the Tableau Mobile for Workspace ONE app will continue to have access to the app, but the functionality of the retired app isn't guaranteed. | System | Documentation | Apps | | --- | --- | --- | | BlackBerry UEM | [BlackBerry UEM help](https://docs.blackberry.com/en/endpoint-management/blackberry-uem/12_16/administration/managing-apps/adr1370355657809/adr1403620751156) | [Android app for BlackBerry](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.Tableau.TableauApp.blackberry) [iOS app for BlackBerry](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/tableau-mobile-for-blackberry/id1280214135) | | Microsoft Intune | [Microsoft Intune help](https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/intune/apps/apps-add) | [Android app for Intune](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.Tableau.TableauApp.Intune) [iOS app for Intune](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/tableau-mobile-for-intune/id1500089067) | | VMware Workspace ONE | [VMware Workspace ONE help](https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-Workspace-ONE-UEM/services/Application_Management/GUID-DeployPublicApps.html) | [iOS app for Workspace ONE](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/tableau-mobile-workspace-one/id1367669730) | If you use Tableau Mobile for BlackBerry or Tableau Mobile for Workspace ONE, encourage your users to download the latest version of the app. The legacy version (versions 19.225.1731 and earlier) is no longer supported. **Disclaimer:** Detailed MDM and MAM guidance is beyond the scope of Tableau documentation and support.
