# Configure XULRunner as Anypoint Studio Default Layout Engine (Windows)

Set XULRunner as the default layout engine for Anypoint Studio on Windows by pointing the Studio
configuration file to your XULRunner binaries. You can also disable ActiveX Filtering if web content
crashes while rendering.

1.  Download `XULRunner` (we recommend
    [v24.0](http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/xulrunner/releases/24.0/runtimes/)).

2.  Unzip your package and install it.

3.  Go to your Anypoint Studio installation directory and open your `AnypointStudio.ini` file.

4.  Add a `-Dorg.eclipse.swt.browser.XULRunnerPath=` variable with the full path to your XULRunner
    binaries:

    \-Dorg.eclipse.swt.browser.XULRunnerPath={YourXULRunnerFolder}

    > [!TIP] XULRunner binaries are located in the folder where you extracted the XULRunner package.

Additionally, if you are experiencing unexpected crashes when rendering web content, you must
disable **ActiveX Filtering**:

1.  In Internet Explorer, select the **Tools** button.

2.  Select `Internet options`.

3.  Go to the `Security` tab, select the **Internet** zone and click on the `Custom level…` button.

4.  Navigate to the `ActiveX controls and plug-ins` option and select **Disable**
