# Configure Anypoint Studio to Use Your Own JDK (Windows)

> For the full documentation index, see: https://docs.mulesoft.com/llms.txt

Point Anypoint Studio on Windows to your own JDK by adding the `-vm` option to the
`AnypointStudio.ini` file. Studio then starts with the JDK installation that you specify instead of
its bundled JDK.

1. Locate your `AnypointStudio.ini` file inside your Anypoint Studio installation directory.

2. Add the `-vm` option to point to your specific JDK installation path.

    ```text
    -vm
    C:\Program Files\Java\jdk-11.0.11+9\bin\javaw.exe
    ```

    - The `-vm` option and the installation path must be on separate lines.

    - The value must be the full absolute or relative path to the Java executable, not just to the
      Java home directory.

    - The `-vm` option must occur after the other Studio-specific options (such as `-product`,
      `--launcher.*`, and so on), but before the `-vmargs` option.

      If you encounter **Java was started but returned exit code=1** while starting Anypoint Studio,
      modify the `-vm` argument to point to the `jvm.dll`:

      ```text
      -vm
      C:\Program Files\Java\jdk-11.0.11+9\jre\bin\server\jvm.dll
      ```
