# Force Error State

> For the full documentation index, see: https://docs.mulesoft.com/llms.txt

Forces the _Workflow_ into an error state and writes the error message to the `Error Out` workflow
variable.

If you don’t handle this error within a _Managed Block_, the _Workflow_ aborts at this point and
returns with an error.

## Properties

- **Error Message**

Custom error message to write into the `Error Out` workflow variable.

If this field is not set, the action step outputs
`Workflow error state manually forced by action step! [No custom message was set.]`

## Inbound Variables

- **Error Message**

## Outbound Variables

This action step has no outbound variables.
