# Configuring SMTP in Anypoint Platform PCE

> For the full documentation index, see: https://docs.mulesoft.com/llms.txt

Because Anypoint Platform Private Cloud Edition (Anypoint Platform PCE) does not provide an SMTP
server, you must set up your own SMTP email server to deliver email alerts generated by Runtime
Manager. The SMTP email server also sends email messages for platform infrastructure alerts,
including CPU, memory, and disk alerts.

You must direct your local installation of Anypoint Platform PCE to this server from the Access
Management panel.

> [!NOTE] Only SMTP servers with authentication are supported (anonymous SMTP relay servers are not
> supported). SMTPS is not supported.

## Connect to an Existing SMTP Server

1. From Anypoint Platform, select **Access Management**.

2. Select **SMTP**.

3. Provide the following parameters information for your SMTP server:

<table><colgroup><col> <col> <col></colgroup><thead><tr><th>Field</th><th>Description</th><th>Example</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><div><div><p>Host</p></div></div></td><td><div><div><p>Host name of your SMTP server.</p></div></div></td><td><div><div><p><code>smtp.gmail.com</code></p></div></div></td></tr><tr><td><div><div><p>Port</p></div></div></td><td><div><div><p>Port used to communicate to your SMTP server.</p></div></div></td><td><div><div><p><code>587</code></p></div></div></td></tr><tr><td><div><div><p>Username</p></div></div></td><td><div><div><p>Username to authenticate to your SMTP server.</p></div></div></td><td><div><div><p><code>mulesoft.onprem.smtp@gmail.com</code></p></div></div></td></tr><tr><td><div><div><p>Password</p></div></div></td><td><div><div><p>SMTP password.</p></div></div></td><td><div><div><p><code>examplepassphrase</code></p></div></div></td></tr><tr><td><div><div><p>Sender</p></div></div></td><td><div><div><p>Optional. Email address that alert notifications are sent from. Available starting with Anypoint Platform PCE 4.3.0. Leave this field blank to use the default sender address.</p></div></div></td><td><div><div><p><code>alerts@example.com</code></p></div></div></td></tr></tbody></table>

> [!NOTE] To use anonymous logins for your SMTP server, leave the **Username** and **Password**
> fields empty.

4. After entering your configuration, select **Save**.

## Set a Custom Sender Address

In Anypoint Platform PCE versions before 4.3.0, outbound alert emails use a fixed sender address.
Mail systems that accept messages only from approved internal domains can reject those emails, and
Anypoint Platform PCE doesn’t report the rejection.

Starting with Anypoint Platform PCE 4.3.0, the SMTP page in **Access Management** includes an
optional **Sender** field. To set the address:

1. From Anypoint Platform, select **Access Management**.

2. Select **SMTP**.

3. Configure the **Host**, **Port**, **Username**, and **Password** fields.

4. In **Sender**, enter the email address to send alert notifications from.

5. Select **Save**.

Anypoint Platform PCE checks that **Sender** is a properly formatted email address. If you leave
**Sender** blank, Anypoint Platform PCE uses the default sender behavior from versions before 4.3.0.

> [!IMPORTANT] Anypoint Platform PCE checks only that **Sender** is a properly formatted email
> address. It doesn’t check that your SMTP server is authorized to send from that address or domain.
> Use an address on a domain your SMTP server is authorized to send from. If the address is outside
> those domains, alert emails can fail to send, and Anypoint Platform PCE doesn’t show an error.
> Confirm the domains your SMTP server allows before you set **Sender**.
