# Modifying Message Types

You can modify a message type’s settings, but what you can modify depends on the message type’s
usage and protocol:

1.  In the sidebar, select the **<host-name>** page.

2.  Locate the message type you want to modify.

3.  Change any of the following settings in the **Edit message type** window:

4.  To dissociate an associated custom message attribute from a Receive from Partners or Source at
    Host message type, remove it from the associated reference map.
