# Headless MuleSoft

> For the full documentation index, see: https://docs.mulesoft.com/llms.txt

You can work with the MuleSoft platform programmatically using natural language from your AI-powered
IDEs, AI assistants, and Slack, skipping the web UI altogether. Developers and AI agents can
discover, build on, operate, and govern the platform from their preferred tools. Your access travels
over APIs and MCP servers, and the same identity and permissions apply wherever you start a request.

You programmatically access the platform through several capabilities:

- Build and author integrations from your IDE with the MuleSoft DX MCP Server.

- Operate, govern, and monitor the platform from any MCP-capable client with the MuleSoft Platform
  MCP Server.

- Build in Anypoint Code Builder with an AI assistant using MuleSoft Vibes.

- Manage your portfolio in plain language using the MuleSoft Agent, the UI, or Slack.

- Register and monitor your services (agents, APIs, MCP servers, model proxies, and gateways) in
centralized Portfolio catalogs, with governance, cost, and monitoring applied across the services.

- Use Developer Hub, a catalog open to both humans and agents, to discover what you can build on.

Because access is governed by Anypoint Platform Access Management, the permissions that apply on
Anypoint Platform apply on every surface.

## The Surfaces

### MuleSoft MCP Servers

Use the DX MCP Server to build and author in your IDE. Use the Platform MCP Server to operate,
govern, and monitor the platform. Some IDEs can connect to both.

#### MuleSoft DX MCP Server

The MuleSoft DX MCP Server lets AI-powered development assistants in your IDE interact with Anypoint
Platform, so you build and manage applications without leaving your coding environment. From
natural-language prompts, generate Mule flows and API specs. Generate and modify MUnit tests, create
MCP servers, manage API instances and policies, deploy and update Mule applications, and search
assets.

For setup and prerequisites, see
[Getting Started with MuleSoft DX MCP Server](https://docs.mulesoft.com/mulesoft-mcp-server/getting-started).

#### MuleSoft Platform MCP Server

The MuleSoft Platform MCP Server gives AI tools governed access to your agentic landscape, including
APIs, agents, MCP servers, and LLMs. Use it to scan, discover, govern, and monitor services in
natural language. Tool categories include Exchange, API Manager, Anypoint Monitoring, Governance,
Runtime Manager, and Cost Management.

For setup and prerequisites, see
[Getting Started with MuleSoft Platform MCP Server](https://docs.mulesoft.com/mulesoft-mcp-server/getting-started-platform).

### MuleSoft Vibes

MuleSoft Vibes is an AI assistant for the development lifecycle, built into Anypoint Code Builder.
Using natural language and generative AI, build, deploy, and manage projects. Develop API
specifications, create and configure applications, search for assets, deploy and manage instances,
and secure applications. Vibes connects to your MuleSoft environment through the MuleSoft MCP Server
and supports reusable skills.

For prerequisites, see
[MuleSoft Vibes Before You Begin](https://docs.mulesoft.com/anypoint-code-builder/mulesoft-vibes#before-you-begin-vibes).

### MuleSoft Agent

The MuleSoft Agent is an AI assistant available throughout the platform UI and in Slack. Use the
MuleSoft Agent to navigate, search, and manage your portfolio through conversation. Capabilities
include portfolio management, governance, monitoring and observability, cost management, navigation,
and platform configuration. The agent respects your Access Management permissions, confirms actions
before making changes, and logs every action.

The MuleSoft Agent is available on request. To get access, contact your account executive or
MuleSoft representative to request enablement.

For prerequisites, see [MuleSoft Agent Before You Begin](https://docs.mulesoft.com/general/exp-ai-assistant-use#before-you-begin).

> [!NOTE] MuleSoft Vibes and the MuleSoft Agent are different assistants. Use MuleSoft Vibes to
> build integrations, APIs, and applications in Anypoint Code Builder. Use the MuleSoft Agent to
> operate and manage your portfolio, including governance, monitoring, and cost, from the platform
> UI or Slack.

### Developer Hub

The [MuleSoft Developer Hub](https://dev-portal.mulesoft.com) is a portal for developers and AI
agents to discover, interact, and build together. It catalogs platform APIs, skills (agent
workflows), MCP servers, and Terraform resources. Browse, search, and filter the catalog in a web
UI, and your agents consume machine-readable entry points (`AGENTS.md`, `registry.json`, and
`llms.txt`) to discover and invoke capabilities.

Skills cover tasks such as building a Mule integration, securing an API, agent, or MCP server,
applying a policy to an API instance, and building or translating an agent network (agent broker)
project.

### Slack

The MuleSoft for Slack app connects a Slack workspace to a MuleSoft organization for notifications,
shortcuts, and deep links. Slackbot can connect to the Platform MCP Server for Q&A, and the MuleSoft
Agent can take governance and management actions from the channel.

The MuleSoft Agent is available on request. To get access, contact your account executive or
MuleSoft representative.

For setup, see [Integrate the Enhanced Experience with Slack](https://docs.mulesoft.com/general/exp-slack-integrate).

## User Journeys

These journeys show how developers, platform teams, and agents use the surfaces to build, operate,
and govern on the platform.

### Journey 1: Build in Your IDE

Role: Developer

1. In a supported IDE such as Cursor, VS Code, or Claude Desktop, register the **MuleSoft DX MCP
    Server**.

2. Use natural-language prompts to generate a Mule flow or API spec, then generate MUnit tests to
    validate it.

3. Deploy the Mule application and manage its API instance and policies, all from your editor.
Never switch to a separate console to finish the build.

### Journey 2: Build with MuleSoft Vibes in Anypoint Code Builder

Role: Developer

1. In Anypoint Code Builder, chat in natural language with MuleSoft Vibes to develop an API
specification and create and configure an application.

2. Vibes connects to the MuleSoft environment through the MuleSoft MCP Server, so you search for
assets, deploy, and manage instances without leaving Code Builder.

3. Apply reusable skills to standardize repeated tasks across your workspace.

### Journey 3: Operate and Govern from Your IDE or Assistant

Role: Developer or platform team

1. From an MCP client such as Claude Desktop, Cursor, or MuleSoft Vibes, connect to the MuleSoft
Platform MCP Server and authenticate into your organization.

2. Use natural language to interact with the platform, for example:

    - `Show me all payment-related APIs across my organization.`

    - `Help me set up a rate-limiting policy on my Stripe API.`

    - `Which LLMs consumed the most requests last week?`

3. For a policy request, the agent fetches the applicable policies, presents configuration options,
and applies the policy to the instance, all within your permissions.

### Journey 4: Operate the Platform in Plain Language

Role: Platform or governance team

1. Working in the platform UI or in Slack, ask the MuleSoft Agent for what you need, for example:

    - `Create a governance strategy that applies a PII detection policy to all customer-facing agents.`

    - `Show me the health of my customer-facing APIs.`

2. The agent uses page and portfolio context, shows a confirmation before any change, and guides
    multi-step tasks.

3. Actions run within your Access Management permissions and are logged and auditable.

### Journey 5: Make Your Existing APIs Agent-Ready (API Owner and Platform Team)

Role: API owner or platform team

1. An AI team needs managed APIs available to their agents, but those APIs include write and delete
operations that are too risky to expose.

2. In API Manager, expose a target API as an MCP server and map only the safe operations (for
example, GET-only) to MCP tools, with no changes to the underlying API.

3. The MCP server runs on MuleSoft Omni Gateway, where existing authentication, policies, and
monitoring apply to every agent request.

4. Agents connect to the MCP server endpoint and can call only the operations that were explicitly
exposed. Usage is monitored alongside the team’s other services.

### Journey 6: Discover What You Can Build On (Developer or Agent)

Role: Developer or agent

1. Open the Developer Hub, where you browse and filter APIs, skills, MCP servers, and Terraform
resources, and agents read `AGENTS.md`, `registry.json`, and `llms.txt` to know which platform
capabilities exist and how to call them.

2. Find the capability you need and build on it, from one catalog, instead of rebuilding what
    already exists.

## Where to Start

Pick the surface that matches your role, then follow the setup topic for that surface.

1. Developers: Connect the DX MCP Server in your IDE, or open MuleSoft Vibes in Anypoint Code
    Builder.

2. Platform and governance teams: Connect the Platform MCP Server, or ask the MuleSoft Agent in the
    UI or Slack.

3. Anyone discovering capabilities: Browse Developer Hub to get started.
