> For the full documentation index, see: https://docs.mulesoft.com/llms.txt

For Managed Omni Gateway and Omni Gateway running in Connected Mode, you apply inbound and outbound
policies using **API Manager**. To find the policies provided by Omni Gateway, see
[Inbound Policies Directory](https://docs.mulesoft.com/gateway/1.13/policies-included-directory) and
[Outbound Policies Directory](https://docs.mulesoft.com/gateway/1.13/policies-outbound-directory).

## Apply Inbound Policies

1. Go to **Anypoint Platform > API Manager**.

2. From **API Instances** or **Agent and Tool Instances**, click the name of the instance to which
you want to apply a policy.

3. From the side navigation panel, click **Policies**.

4. Click **\+ Add policy**.

5. Select the policy to apply.

6. Configure the required parameters.

    For policy configuration parameters, see
    [Inbound Policies Directory](https://docs.mulesoft.com/gateway/1.13/policies-included-directory).

7. Click **Advanced options** to configure these optional parameters:

    - **Policy label**: A label to identify the policy, specifically for use cases with multiples of
      the same policy.

    - **Policy version**: The version of the policy definition to use.

    - Application conditions: Apply the policy to all incoming requests or requests that match
      specified conditions:

      - **Methods**: The HTTP methods to apply the policy to.

      - **URI template regex**: A URI template regex of which request paths to apply the policy to.

      - **Host**: The host to apply the policy to.

      - **Headers**: A map of headers names and regex values to apply the policy to.

        > [!NOTE] If necessary, use multiples of the same policy to meet all required conditions.

8. Click **Apply**.

## Apply Outbound Policies

1. Go to **Anypoint Platform > API Manager**.

2. From **API Instances** or **Agent and Tool Instances**, click the name of the instance to which
you want to apply a policy.

3. From the side navigation panel, click **Policies**.

4. Click the **Outbound policies** tab.

5. Click **\+ Add outbound policy**.

6. Select the **Upstream** to which you want to apply a policy.

7. If you want to apply the policy to an additional upstream, click **Add upstream** and select the
additional upstream. Repeat this step for all upstreams to which you want to apply the policy.

8. Click **Next**.

9. Select the policy to apply.

10. Configure the required parameters.

    For policy configuration parameters, see
    [Outbound Policies Directory](https://docs.mulesoft.com/gateway/1.13/policies-outbound-directory).

11. Click **Advanced options** to configure these optional parameters:

    - Policy label: A label to identify the policy, specifically for use cases with multiples of the
      same policy.

    - **Policy version**: The version of the policy definition to use.

    - Application conditions: Apply the policy to all incoming requests or requests that match
      specified conditions:

      - **Methods**: The HTTP methods to apply the policy to.

      - **Headers**: A map of headers names and regex values to apply the policy to.

        > [!NOTE] If necessary, use multiples of the same policy to meet all required conditions.

12. Click **Apply**.

## Upgrade a Policy Definition

To upgrade a policy in API Manager:

1. Go to **Anypoint Platform > API Manager**.

2. From **API Instances** or **Agent and Tool Instances**, click the name of the instance with the
    policy to upgrade.

3. From the side navigation panel, click **Policies**.

6. Click **Save**.

    > [!NOTE] You must manually check for implementation version updates only when upgrading the
    > **patch** version of a definition (for example, 1.0.0 to 1.0.1). For **minor** and **major**
    > version upgrades (for example, 1.0.0 to 1.1.0 or 1.0.0 t0 2.0.0), the implementation updates
    > automatically. To upgrade a policy implementation, see
