# Publishing Flex Gateway API Instances

> For the full documentation index, see: https://docs.mulesoft.com/llms.txt

Publishing an API instance consists of defining a client service and routing that service to a
backend location. Flex Gateway enables you to publish API instances via Anypoint Platform (Connected
Mode) or declarative configuration files (Local Mode).

To publish an API instance in Connected Mode, see
[Publishing Managed Gateway and Connected Mode API Instances](https://docs.mulesoft.com/gateway/1.12/flex-gateway-publish-apis-conn).

To publish an API instance in Local Mode, see
[Publishing Local Mode API Instances](https://docs.mulesoft.com/gateway/1.12/flex-gateway-publish-apis-local).
