# Managing API Spec Versions

> For the full documentation index, see: https://docs.mulesoft.com/llms.txt

View and change the version of an API specification linked to your Mule project from the **API
Specs** tab in **Project Properties**. When you apply a version change, Anypoint Code Builder
fetches the selected spec version from Anypoint Exchange, updates the `pom.xml` file, and
re-scaffolds the project. New endpoints from the updated spec are added as flows. Existing flows are
not modified.

You can also manage API spec versions using MuleSoft Vibes. See
[Managing API Spec Versions with MuleSoft Vibes](https://docs.mulesoft.com/anypoint-code-builder/vibes-manage-api-spec-versions).

## Before You Begin

- [Set up and access Anypoint Code Builder](https://docs.mulesoft.com/anypoint-code-builder/start-acb).

- Make sure you have the
  [required Anypoint Code Builder permissions](https://docs.mulesoft.com/anypoint-code-builder/start-configure-permissions#permissions).

- Have an implementation or integration project that includes an API spec dependency published to
  Anypoint Exchange.

## View Your API Spec Details

Access **Project Properties** to see the API specs linked to your project and their current
versions:

1. In the **Explorer**, right-click the Mule configuration XML file for your project.

2. Select **Mule** > **Manage API Specs**.

    Alternatively, select **Mule** > **Open Mule Project Properties** and then click **API Specs**
    in the left menu.

    The **API Specs** tab opens and lists each API spec linked to the project. For each spec, the
    tab shows:

    - **Asset Version**: The version currently set in the project’s `pom.xml` file.

    - **API Type**: The API format, such as REST.

    - **Asset ID**: The identifier for the API spec asset in Anypoint Exchange.

    - **Business Group**: The business group that owns the asset in Anypoint Exchange.

## Change the API Spec Version

Change the version of an API spec to update your project with a different published version from
Anypoint Exchange:

1. Open **Project Properties** > **API Specs**. See [View Your API Spec Details](#view-api-spec).

2. Expand the API spec you want to update.

3. Click the **Asset Version** dropdown and select a version.

    The dropdown lists all published versions available for that asset in Anypoint Exchange.

    > [!NOTE] A message below the dropdown indicates that applying changes triggers a re-scaffold of
    > the project. New endpoints are added as flows. No changes are applied to existing flows.

4.  Click **Apply**.

    When you apply the version change, Anypoint Code Builder:

    - Updates the version property for the API spec in the `pom.xml` file.

      For example, changing from version 1.0.0 to 3.0.0 updates:

      ```XML
      <covid19-data-tracking-api.version>3.0.0</covid19-data-tracking-api.version>
      ```

    - Re-scaffolds the project using the selected version of the spec fetched from Anypoint
      Exchange.

    - Adds flows for any new endpoints introduced in the selected version.

> [!NOTE] If you manually edit the version in `pom.xml` to a value that does not correspond to a
> published Exchange asset, re-scaffolding fails. Use the **Asset Version** dropdown to select only
> valid published versions.
