# Additional Customizations

> For the full documentation index, see: https://docs.mulesoft.com/llms.txt

The following customizations can be made to tailor the accelerator components to suit your needs.

## Maven POM Parent

All Accelerator projects inherit from a parent Maven POM. In addition to some global settings and
repository references, this config also defines the versions of all MuleSoft connectors and modules
used by applications. Refer to the
[Accelerator POM Parent](https://anypoint.mulesoft.com/exchange/org.mule.examples/accelerator-pom-parent-src/)
asset for more information about making changes to the POM parent file.

## Common Core Library

It is a best practice in MuleSoft application development to place common flows, configuration
settings, and other resources into a shared library. The
[Accelerator Common Core Library](https://anypoint.mulesoft.com/exchange/org.mule.examples/accelerator-common-core-src/)
asset contains the source used by most implementation templates created for the accelerators. It is
referenced as a Maven dependency only and is _not_ an application you can run.

If you need to make changes to it you will need to download the asset, extract the source, and then
import it into Studio (use the `Anypoint Studio project from File System` wizard). As with the POM
parent, update the version number before making any changes. See the `README.md` file in the project
source for more details.

In order for applications to reference the new version, you must either install the updated library
in your local Maven repository or deploy it to your own Exchange instance. The process is similar to
that described for the POM Parent, described above. In each application, update the
`accelerator-common-core.version` property in the POM file to use the new library when building.

## Configurable Properties

In all applications, including the common core library, MuleSoft property files are located under
the `src/main/resources/config` folder and are in YAML format. Each project has a
`config-local.yaml` file, which holds configuration properties suitable for running the application
from Anypoint Studio. The `config-dev.yaml` file contains properties for deployment to the DEV
environment.

You can modify these files as per your own environment settings. In most cases, you must replace the
property values where the value shows something similar to `REPLACE_BY_USER` in order for the
application to be useful. Consult the project `README.md` file and/or the use case configuration
steps for more details on configuring individual applications. You can also create entirely new sets
of files for additional deployment environments.

All properties can be overridden at deployment time by supplying the fully-qualified property name
to the Mule runtime. For CloudHub deployments, add the property to the `Properties` tab in Runtime
Manager with the desired value. For example, the common core library has the following default
property definition (some content omitted for clarity):

common: notifications: send: "none"

This can be overridden for an application by providing the following:

common.notifications.send=email

For local deployments, prefix the above with `-M-D` on the command line.

## Encryption Keys

For convenience, passwords, secrets, hostnames, URLs have been converted to plain-text so that it’s
easy to paste into Studio’s "Run Configurations". This also eases CloudHub deployment by using
"hidden" properties not stored in any files. However, all components do support the use of encrypted
properties out-of-the-box.

To use secure properties, set an `encryption-key` (called "mule.key" in configurations) for
encrypting secrets. Individual properties can then be encrypted and placed in the
`config-secured-${mule.env}.yaml` file, as appropriate. These files will automatically be imported
at runtime. For maximum security, use a different encryption key for each application.

Refer to the
[MuleSoft documentation](https://docs.mulesoft.com/cloudhub/secure-application-properties) for more
information.

## Application Messages

Use `application-msgs.********` properties in YAML across all projects to configure the log messages
as per the requirement. For example, `${application-msgs.before-post-inventory-call}` is used by the
Logger before the HTTP POST inventory call to B2C Commerce.

## Notifications

The `common.notifications.send` property, defined in the common core library, is used to configure
error notification settings for the APIs. Valid values are as follows:

- `email` sends an email notification

- `sms` sends an SMS notification

- `slack` sends a Slack notification

- `all` sends to all notification routes

- `none` does not send any notifications

The default setting is `none`. To enable the sending of notifications for a single application, you
can override the value of this property at deployment time, either by adding the property to the
`cloudHubDeployment` section in the application `pom.xml` file or by setting it directly in Runtime
Manager.

To change the default behavior for all applications, modify the property value in the common core
library, deploy the new version to Exchange, and then update all applications to reference the new
version of the library.
